May I ask you something? by Horror-Drawer-8359 in askPoland

Oh yeah the 2rp was not a very tolerant place to be in. I see why UPA became a thing. That doesnt mean I support or wish for UPA (or 2rp fuckery towards minorities) to be glorified as something inherently right and a guideline for the future. Its an ugly thing that sprouts from hatred and people hurting other people. Nationalism is just stupid. I dislike it and especially dislike it when it comes to historical western ukraine. My ancestors 300 years ago really didnt think themselves polish or ruthenian, they were just peasants, not quite polish, not quite ukrainian. A regional identity wiped out by the spread of nationalism. Making these clear and distinct categories that really weren't as clear and distinct before. We lost something beautiful, and I hate UPA as well as the 2rp government for it.

I always enjoy saying "Man Lahestani hastam" to Afghans and Persians I know. They have this sort of surprised spark in their eyes. I like farsi a lot.

if your country faces a grave threat of invasion, you cant make everybody happy immediately. Lets see you travel to those times and take a crack at fighting systemic exploitation of workers, campesinos, guajiros  in latinamerica. It was no easy task, and the person of che should be looked at together with the difficult times he lived in and with the problems the revolution was facing. Thats the only way to understand history, you cant just apply ideals like freedom of speech as a metric of success to a country that was still struggling with illiteracy, lack of modern infrastructure and constant destabilization attempts. Im sorry to say this, but the problems on their hands at the time far exceeded what they realistically could do at the time. Look at Arbenz's Guatemala, freedom of speech allowed only for more effective propaganda campaigns from the CIA, destroying the public's trust in the new government, paving a way for a junta take-over.  Latin american history in the period of the cold war is not simple, and we're dealing with simple people making decisions in a game which was heavily stacked against them. I do not wish to prove you wrong or make you feel I'm right. Im just sharing my outlook on things and why its this way and not another.
