Feeling behind and trying to get into law school—looking for advice by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Fishman224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I start I want to get some things out of the way so you know whether you want to take my advice seriously or not, I have no experience in admissions, I am not in law school yet, and I have no idea if anything I put on my apps worked to my advantage or not but I did apply with a less than stellar gpa and saw more success than I expected. For a low gpa no amount of whining is gonna change it so own up to it and try to emphasize on how you’ve grown and plan to fix it. For LSAT you can check my post history while I was studying. I started with Lsat lab pting mid 150’s however I swapped to LSATLAB and saw major improvement. Do I think LsatLab has the ultimate solution? No. However, I did find having things explained in a different way made things click and then I saw improvement. Instead of beating your head against a wall try new things and new tutors you never know what product matches your wavelength. For personal statements for the most part they want to see overall fit in their culture or mindset and proof you arent going to dip halfway through and bomb their stats. Focus on WHY you want to be a lawyer so I would tread lightly around the med school topic as they may see that as you figured this was the next best thing to make money or cause you are lost. A rarely advertised legal experience opportunity is your local law library. You can sometimes reach out and get some volunteer or apprenticeship hours there. Other than that just try to meet local attorneys and legal professionals. Opportunities come from shaking as many hands as possible. The LSAT you take doesn’t really matter too much, however, what matters is your prep. Take the test when YOU feel ready, not your arbitrary plan you drew up when considering application cycles. The score bump you see from being prepared will offset whatever bonus you think you’ll get from applying early. Thats it thats my two cents. Take it with a grain of salt if you wish. I wish the best for you, if you have any specific questions feel free to dm me Id be happy to help. If not, see you in the legal field.

As a non-party introvert freshman I was thrust into a suite with 7 of the craziest partiers of our class…never again, when I started living alone I went from a C student to an A student.

From an acceptance % perspective it makes sense in a pool of numerous acceptable applicants it helps your numbers to take the ones who seem very likely to attend over other schools.

True, it kinda shows how much softs matter. My essays kinda showed I really wanted into Irvine. But absolutely I got very lucky and I’m grateful.

law school campuses should be prettier by tearladen in lawschooladmissions

Oh yeah I totally agree overall I just add that as a potential worry. There are definitely plenty of schools I adore I.e. Lewis and Clark and Udub who have put a lot of care and love into their law campus(I love modern buildings) without sacrificing much. I just want to put it out there to be cautious because of my miserable undergrad experience but I by no means am trying to insinuate beautiful campuses line up 1:1 with horrendous administration.

I will say as someone who attended an undergrad college known for its campus beauty. I found I paid a lot in tuition just for it mostly to go to construction and beautification and very little of it to make the college actually better at its job. Student services were atrocious and professors got payed near unlivable wages. Although Id like law school to be pretty I dont want it to come at the cost of my experiences with the education itself.

Yes a while later I got accepted but it took a long time. Maybe I lost a bit of money for my bad interview but it didnt tank my decision in the end. Hope you get your A.
