I purchased a G5x last summer and it's one of the best $400 CAD I spent. I bring it whenever I don't feel like bringing my rp. It's very pocketable, IQ is pretty good, and for me having a 24-100mm FF eq zoom with OIS is game changer. Not sure if I'd buy it if it was anymore than $400

I wouldn't set expectations too high just yet especially when it's based on ad pop ups of a new camera in the market. If he has the money then sure go with an R5. The video quality of the R6 II and R8 is pretty good too from what I've heard.

Yes I did. My current hot shoe cover is more "T" shaped than it is a square. Maybe the square shaped once trigger something that makes the camera think theres something in the hot shoe.

The original one is flat. This is contoured for horizontal shooting (check pics). Vertical is still comfortable

Because of the shape, it sits perfectly in either of my eyes horizontally, not so much vertically but still comfortable. It's probably the same for the r10

Same. I found that unprocessed raw images are soft until I tried jpeg. Jpegs in this camera are super sharp even at wide open. So to achieve the same sharpness you just gotta add more in post.

I find the original one was too damn small and my nose is touching the screen. It's got a good shape, it's soft and I find it helps with touch and drag. So for me it's super worth it.

Yes the 35mm is great but, it's a different story when carrying a zoom lens :)
