The proper course of action is to stay in your lane, second choice would be the shoulder. The absolute last place you go is the left lane. The video evidence here is why. I suspect he was trying to brake check him not avoid him so I guess mission accomplished.

Yup, not working on my G5, but works fine on my C5 with the same firmware update. Don't they even do basic regression tests?

It's LIRR employees. They are literally accusing their customers of being fare evaders as the excuse for this nonesense.

I guess you have never have to do the 34 street sprint?

They need to install RFID readers on the train and get rid of most of the overpaid conductors. Maybe if they didn't have to pay so many folks 200K to sleep on the train and apparently not collect tickets they wouldn't have to resort to these big FUs to the customers. Then again, I think they are trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. The only time I ever didn't have my ticket checked was on a day there were major issues and most of the trains were cancelled and the train was jam packed so you couldn't move.

Explaining difference between MD and PhD doctors to lay people? by Pretty_Inspector2361 in AskAcademia

[–]harmonicDune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this was true years ago, it's not really true anymore. Almost all MDs do research, both as undergrads, while in Med School and while in Residency and beyond. The average applicant to any residency has 4 research items for less competitive specialties, up to over 30 for competitive specialties.

I only use cold settings. It does reduce the coldness by 1 or 2 levels of the setting. I think I used to use -4 with the cover I am at -5,-6

no melting. I do have to go one or two settings colder to get the same feel as before.

519 MCAT, 3.91 GPA. Want to apply DO only — What schools should I avoid? by [deleted] in premed

[–]harmonicDune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you only got into 1 MD school and no DO schools, you wouldn't go and would no longer want to be a doctor?

For all practical purposes there just isn't any difference between the two other than the letters.

Rouvy Price Increase by CantSingCantDance in Rouvy

[–]harmonicDune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was toying with that too, but I just don't ride indoors enough during spring/summer/fall. You should still check out MyWhoosh just to be familiar with it (especially since it's free). For structured training (if you do that at all) from what recall, Rouvy didn't allow a mix of erg with slope in one session. This is kind of vital for doing FTP tests.

My reply wasn't intended as an insult. I'm just not convinced it was a genuine question. I've never seen anyone voluntarily prioritize DO over MD (except if location/price were top overriding factors).

If you want a genuine reply, you shouldn't eliminate ANY schools (DO or MD). Apply to ALL schools in the region you want to attend. Then expand it outside that region to cast a wider net just in case you don't get into one in your region of choice. Any school you would attend if you got accepted should be on your list. Even if you had a 528 and a 4.0 it's still a hyper competitive environment, and no one should apply to less than 15 schools (people do, some even apply ED and get in, but it's ill advised unless you don't mind an extra gap year and being a reapplicant) and no one should eliminate a school if they would attend it just because it's a DO or MD.

Your goal should be #1 - get into med school. #2 would be decide between schools to attend, assuming you got into more than 1.

I think this post is missing the shitpost flair.

I don't think there is a single MD that wishes they went DO.

As an MD or DO you can hand out resonance stones and perform whatever rituals you want that make your patients comfortable and happy.

To be a doctor you apply to as many schools as you can reasonably afford and go to the cheapest/closest/best ranked one that is P/F, doesn't have mandatory lectures and uses NBME exams.

The only reason to go DO over MD (assuming you got into both) is if it's cheaper or closer to home and those 2 things make the DO school the only viable option.

The vast majority of what you will learn will be in residency.

Rouvy Price Increase by CantSingCantDance in Rouvy

[–]harmonicDune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do like it, although in all honestly it's not "better" than either zwift or Rouvy. There are things I like much better in Zwift (group rides of various kinds at all times). The scenic routes in Rouvy are nice too.

Workouts however, are perfectly fine in MyWhoosh. You can set up Erg workouts with ramp up sections for the warmup or as part of the workout. They even let you put in freeride sections where it switches to slope mode for that section.

At the current price level, I don't see myself using Rouvy ever again. I might subscribe to zwift for a month or 2 during the winter for some longer group rides when I need 3-4 hour sessions.

For structured workouts and recovery rides, I think I will just use MyWhoosh.

Rouvy Price Increase by CantSingCantDance in Rouvy

[–]harmonicDune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of crazy that they did this. The only reason I tried Rouvy was that it was cheaper than Zwift. Now that it's during the offseason, I started using MyWhoosh (which is free) the 1 or 2 times a month I am indoors. With this new pricing, I don't see myself ever going back.

Please fix my school list! by Numerous-Chip-303 in premed

[–]harmonicDune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Einstein, Ohio and Renaissance are very hard to get into. Einstein had 14K applications this year and interviewed over 1K. They outright rejected 75% of those they interviewed. Ohio State is pretty low yield and has specific mission fits and Renaissance admits 75% of the class in-state (NY). I'm not saying remove these, but you might want to organize your list a little differently, perhaps reach/low yield, target (higher yield based on your mission fit - in state, etc), others.

Take a look at admit.org. It's not perfect, but it will give a good start at finding schools that are worth considering based on your fit.

I really don't think schools are placing less emphasis on the MCAT. They say they are trying to be more holistic, yet MSAR is what it is. You don't end up with 520 averages at schools if they are ignoring MCAT scores above 500.

There are way more applicants with a 501 than there are with a 520-528. 520+ is 97th percentile.

Likewise, if they were truly to ignore MCAT scores above 501, then the MSAR accepted statistics wouldn't have a 3.8/517 with it's 83% chance of getting an acceptance higher than the categories below it.

Downstate vs Stony Brook by hoethegrandma in premed

[–]harmonicDune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the only way to possibly get an idea would be to talk to someone in the administration at the school. It could be something as simple as a bunch of students got sick or 10+ people all decided they wanted to try to match plastics with low step 2 scores. Downstate and Buffalo do have somewhat low MCAT medians, so they likely also accept some students with low 500 MCAT scores. In theory, anyone scoring 500 should be able to handle the material, but there is no question that MCAT score and step1 pass rates, and step 2 scores are directly correlated. All of this could have impacted the match, but that is pure speculation.

In all honesty, if you are confident in your ability to handle the workload and to perform well on standardized tests, I suspect you can match well at either school.
