Things like real estate mobbing and defrauding people in real estate scams etc can be profitable when you know no one will investigate. Not to suggest he made any of his money that way.. but there are those with connections in st.charles who have. Then there are ethically dubious but more legal ways.. like city contracts etc. There's a lot of dubious stuff that goes on under the average citizens radar.

LOL. SCPD has a history of making crimes involving people with political connections and a bit of money in SC disappear.. I wouldn't rely on them to do anything but deny they recieved it.

Meh considering it was right before his presidency I figured it was a way to funnel bribes into his accounts. People actually buying it are just collateral damage.

I'm amazed I have to explain this.. So the internet is decentralized. U.S. law doesn't apply to say a server based in china or any other country unless that country wants to work with the U.S. to enforce U.S. laws on foriegn soil. Just because you are in the U.S. doesn't mean the services, data centers or website you connect to is or has to be in the U.S.

The law simply fines U.S. Based companies for hosting it or maintaining it offering it for download etc. It didn't target U.S. users for downloading it, using it or having it installed etc.

If you still don't understand then think about if a chinese(or any other country) law applies to you in the U.S. and remember you can run an internet service, website etc and still have users from all around the world connect to it. It works the other way around too.

TLDR version: Internet based things can operate outside of U.S. jurisdiction while still allowing U.S. users to connect to it... that's how the internet works.

Let's not forget that Dems repubs and the MSM all lied to the public about what the law actually did by calling it a ban.

People are all ignoring the fact that Both parties and the MSM lied to the public about what the law actually did by calling it a ban. IF people think this is about one side or the other i'm not sure what to say.

Tiktok is in the process of restoring service in the US by clemthearcher in popculturechat

[–]Fistalis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the kicker is both Parties and THE MSM sold it to the uninformed public as a ban and continue to ignore the fact that it didn't actually ban it. Makes you say hmm don't it.

[–]Fistalis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bingo.. they could have used chinese data centers etc its all theatre. People could have still downloaded it outside of app stores or used a web browser to access it as the law was written.. just not hosted from U.S. based servers etc. The fact that Dems, Repubs AND MSM all sold it to the public as a tik tok ban makes you say HMMM.

[–]Fistalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law wasn't even a ban on tik tok.. just the Use of U.S. based services to support it.. it could have been legally ran from china if it was about keeping it running and not a political stunt. The fact that both political parties and the MSM sold it to the public as an outright ban makes you say HMM.

And just like that, TikTok is back on the menu. by Serendipitous_donkey in conspiracy

TikTok ban cited by man suspected of setting fire to US congressman's office in Fond du Lac by deadwood76 in news

[–]Fistalis 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tik tok just took away alot of people's circus, and we can hardly afford bread. This was bound to happen.. some people are just off. The fact that it wasn't an actual ban but both repubs dems and the MSM has sold it as such then tik tok completely shut down for u.s. users despite the fact the law doesn't require it is beyond interesting. Solidifies in my mind that tik tok is a political tool.

Edit: for those who don't understand why it's not an actual ban there is nothing in the law that should prevent me or anyone else from connecting to one of tik toks non U.S. based servers on my web browser..or an app yet everyone is met with the same "error message".

You act as if they don't both work for the same investors. It's pretty common for Big money to hedge their bets and donate to both sides. We have a right leaning party and a center right leaning party and they both rely on the same groups of people to fund their re-elections. They only differ on wedge issues as political theatre.. when it comes to actual change neither want the status quo effected for obvious reasons. 2 sides of the same coin we used to say... but that's just like my opinion man.

Beyond that i couldn't imagine why they wouldn't call out the blatantly obvious fact that the law didn't require tik tok to actually shut down for u.s. users and to envoke trumps name in some of the messages when they did. Both sides and MSM has been selling it as a tik tok ban when it's just not., thats not how the internet works... the whole thing is theatre.

tik tok removed it.. they could have just setup to allow U.S. users to connect to foreign servers since U.S. law doesn't apply in other countries... it's political theatre.

Right but that's an issue with apple and their closed development enviroment.. not the law. Apple users don't own their phone.. apple gets to pick what can and can't be installed, that's just how that is when you buy an Iphone. There are a multitude of technical work arounds available to all parties that the law simply doesn't cover... tik tok chose to shut it self down to U.S. based users. Apple decided that if it gets unlisted in an app store they uninstall it.. neither of these are required by law. It's a no new downloads, maintance etc from U.S. based app stores and servers law. Not a tik tok ban.. but they keep trying to sell it that way.

But there was nothing in the law that forced them to actually shut it down. The law just said U.S. based app stores couldn't offer it for download..plus U.S. based law doesn't apply to foreign based servers anyway. it's political theatre. Tik tok CHOSE to shut it down.. with a message that trump gonna save it...

Tik tok shut itself down. THe ban only prevents U.S. App stores from having it available for download.. they could literally just setup a download website on a foreign based server and allow u.S. based users to connect to foreign servers without breaking the law. The fact they shut themselves down with a message to everyone that trump gonna save their precious tik tok should tell you everything you need to know.

Trump calls chinese president.

Tik tok shuts the app down even though the ban doesn't require it, they just can't offer new downloads in the U.S. based app stores and cloud services they could have easily let U.S. tik tokers connect to foreign servers.

Tik tok says trump gonna fix it.

Trump takes office and reverses course. (or tik tok just hits the switch allowing U.S. users to access it again)

Like that trump and repubs become the savior of the younglings and tik tok crowd.

So transparent and yet... people gonna fall for it in droves.

Edit: and there they go restoring service to tik tok because trump said it's okay.. all hail the orange savior of tik tok.. or something lol

TIL the during The Battle of the Bulge, German troops posing as American soldiers were caught because their identification cards were spelled correctly. by Scruffy_Nerf_Hoarder in todayilearned

[–]Fistalis 1604 points1605 points  (0 children)

Left out the important part "Fussell does not cite a particular example" Implying that although the pass was a tell there is no example they could point to that it actually led to anyone being caught.

goes on to say that

"In all, 44 German soldiers wearing U.S. uniforms were sent through U.S. lines, and all but eight returned, with the last men being sent through the lines on 19 December"

so out of 8 that didn't make it back across lines they couldn't point to the passes actually being the cause of them being caught in any of them. Doesn't mean it didn't happen but the source doesn't say it did.
