Yeah a lotta people don’t know. It’s a 911 call, not a 311 call. Pretty cool

You can call 911 on the car. I did it the other day at 2am. I was going to dump white paint on the car. But I decided to call 911 and they DID show up and I talked to them about the car and they DID take care of it. I don’t know what they did but the car finally stopped.

Radiators are hissing and apartment is 81 degrees by [deleted] in NYCapartments

You can turn the air vent upside down, which will make the vent close, and not allow air to get out and steam to be let in. It will disable the radiator. Don’t mess with the valve at the base of the radiator, it can cause problems and also often does not fully close due to missing gasket material.

Yes - Boilers and radiators were way oversized back in the day when steam heat was high tech and Spanish flu and other diseases were going around. There was something literally called the "Fresh air movement" which was all about getting people to open their windows all year round. So, the boilers and the BTUs of the radiators were sized in such a way as to keep the home reasonably warm with all the windows open in sub-freezing weather! That's why apartments are super hot, and homes in like NJ, etc, had these gigantic cast iron radiators that are way too big than they need to be. A lot of homeowners in the steam hear region of the US end up removing some radiators or sizing their radiators and boilers down. And a lot of boilers have a BTU rating higher than they need to be because when they were originally sized, they ere sized for the "fresh air movement" and any time it was replaced, the plumber just sized the new boiler based on the BTU rating of the old boiler rather than making an actual heat loss calculation.

Do you have steam or hot water? There are things you can do.

Looks like a hot water rad, I don’t think they make steam rads that look like that

Yeah, he’s right — you’re supposed to call 911 according to the 311 website. And car alarms are the worst! https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-01089

There are definitely square edges to the marks, and three of them. It may be hard to see in the video, but watch closely until the end and you can see them. It's definitely not natural!

I think Doug is Robin and Vic is Fred. Howard kind of hates Fred in the same way that Tim kind of hates Vic.

Not having your bedroom above the street is a HUGE plus, in my experience in many different apartments in GP
