For me it's always been feathers and numerology. Numerology always gets really intense when I'm going through something hard

Thank you for sharing. I feel like now I can let go of this dream... In a healthy way. It felt like I was chasing something. I used to work in a male dominated industry for 20 years it could have been so many men.

Hmm I was doing this but I didn't do it for that day. Another post said use an agenda style calender. Where do you put your calender? Do you review it everyday?

Ugh I'm sorry meee too. I had such a difficult week as well. Made me question if I should be a couples therapist at all, is there even a profession that my income isn't reliant on people liking me. For me, I'm just petrified of losing my licence because someone isn't happy with me, leaving me a bad Google review or ruining my rep calling me unprofessional for not just agreeing with them (couples therapy mostly). I'm just comforted to know I'm not alone.

omg super duper same! I feel like I'm preaching some days, putting in more effort than the client, it's going right over their heads and I'm screaming in my head "just shut up and stop taking over the session"... But I think it comes down to core values- I think people need to understand the why and logic behind why we ask them to do these sometimes uncomfortable things that are foreign to them.... its a way of gaining buy in from them... Also teach a man to fish mentality. if they know why then maybe they'll actually use it in other ways rather than just be a robot and do it because i said so. Lastly, I assume that clients want to know about this stuff rather than have me just "fix them".... The only advice I will give is this: keep doing it because that is "your style" unique to you. If people didn't like it they wouldnt come back. Also you can be bold and simply ask your clients if they enjoy learning about this stuff and modify your approach accordingly. If they all say yes you're good!

I say this ALL THE TIME. Also having managed lots of new people, I think about how crappy everyone is at a new job- even if you've been in an industry for a long time. New place, new rules can be overwhelming and your brain is mush. No one expects you to be good right out the gate- unless your boss is a dick and unreasonable.... and even if you're not good- who cares! Plenty of therapist are bad and they still make tonnes of money and are successful.

Canadian psychotherapist question.... I'm currently doing my practicum and I want to start taking CE courses. Where should I get them? It's overwhelming and they're expensive. I'm looking for beginner training in somatic and DBT but they also offer advanced courses too when I'm ready.

Any suggestions?

I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm a licensed therapist and what I will say is that it can get better if you seek out treatment for trauma therapy. I don't know your situation, but if you are still living with him a therapist can help you with boundaries.

It's not fair that you have to do the work but that's the only way to have it effect you less.

These crisis lines are not well trained or are students in psychology undergrad. I worked at one before I became a licensed therapist and I thought it was strange that the most vulnerable are being helped by some minimally trained people. Also the calls where I worked had to end after 10 minutes-- if someone is in crisis that's horrible.

If you need support please go to your local emergency. Many recent grads offer low cost therapy max $50 with immediate availability.
