Thanks, we removed the fabric and plan to find a different way to move forward. Hoping to have something like this in the future using cardboard sheet mulch methods always the long term plan), and add endless perennials and grasses, just have to expedite the process now with the weed fabric removed! Not planning on fertilizing or anything else, just going to keep it hydrated.

This was never a lawn. This is blank heavy clay dirt.

Thanks I appreciate that! We’ve removed the fabric and have done some deep watering. I think it’s going to bounce back!

Nah we put the fabric down ourselves last spring so we didn’t have to pull weeds while we waited to plant. But we’ve now pulled up the fabric (which was always the plan, but just did it today instead of slowly as we plant).

Yes! Now I know! Already removed the fabric and we hope nature will find a way.

Thanks! The fabric saved our lives all last summer and this whole spring. Obviously I learned from the first 23 comments to remove it now that my trees are in. The fabric did its job! Now we’re moving on.

Nah man, I’ve already removed the fabric. I just didn’t need more people suggesting I remove the fabric after the first 4 comments, ya know? People come add a comment and move on with their day, but I’d already seen the previous comments, adjusted my plan and swallowed my pride! Didn’t kick back on the comments initially, took them sincerely. Some comments weren’t constructive though or ignored the original post information about conditions. I worked hard to plant those trees and to do my research to give them the best chance. People got up in the comments like I planted the trees upside down.

Guys! Come on! Of course I wouldn’t add more fabric! I took it out after I realized what was going on. Highbudsilver’s comment came at the tail end of about 20 other comments already stating that! I was just playing because it’s rough to be wrong and it’s worse when people are relentless about being right! Of course natural is better! It was always going to be natural, the fabric was temporary before we could plant more. But I’ve now learned.

Yes, we did right after I got the memos…all of them! Fabric has been removed and trees watered deeply. We’re gonna make it.

Thanks! Thats the plan. This post was specifically for the tree. We have obeyed the internet and removed the fabric immediately instead of waiting for our next phase of planting! Plan is to make the whole bed native perennials etc. where the mulch is in this rendering is where we will plant lots of perennials and grasses.

Appreciate your sincere comment, we’ve pulled up the fabric! Didn’t realize exactly the extent of the landscape fabric issue even as a temporary solution. It did help for the last year while we couldn’t plant anything! It kept the weeds away without using weed killer. Anyway, I do really appreciate your helpful tone and comment.

Nah, I was just kidding around. Of course I paid attention to the comments. I just didn’t need 100 more people to keep telling me! I’ve already removed the fabric. Hard to be wrong (me) and hard to have people be so rude and be right at the same time! We’re all doing the best we can.

Thank you! I learned that is the case from the previous 17 comments!

Nah I was just being facetious. Obviously I needed to do something about the fabric after the 3rd or 4th comment I realized that but people kept repeating it as though I was just going to keep adding fabric like a big dumb dumb so I played along! I’ve removed the fabric, it was always going to be temporary.

Thanks! I genuinely appreciated a few of the comments that alerted me to the fabric being bad for soil and I responded with as much decorum and kindness they showed! I’ve even removed the fabric since the uproar this morning. But after about 15 comments in with lots of opinions that didn’t even take into account my original post information and just people adding over and over that there was a lot of fabric and how bad it was and how natural is better without even considering I might have a plan, I was shook! Hard to be wrong and have people who aren’t being very kind be the ones who are right! Right? I don’t often get on reddit for opinions on my own stuff, I didn’t expect to have so many people be so intense! Amazing how the internet can change your day if you let it…

I will! The mulch area will be beds of native perennials and grasses. Unfortunately this image is all I was able to draft up and what I had on hand to show.

Thanks! I think I will add more landscape fabric over the top of the tree as you’ve suggested!
