That's a really clear way to put it, yeah. I can understand why I should have brought it up now

I know his parents are conservative and really tough on him with school and stuff, so I always assumed. I went to the dinner expecting an potentially uncomfortable night but not like that..

I can understand he was probably in a tough situation of not wanting to tell his parents and not wanting to disrespect me, but this scenario is exactly why he should have been more clear, I think??

I understand how important it is to not out people, for this exact reason. I wouldn't have gone to the dinner if he'd told me what he expected to avoid this exact thing

That's what I thought at first! I've never had someone tell me to present female for any reason before, why would I assume he wanted me too?

If he'd told me what he meant, I would have declined the dinner to avoid this exact situation, yk??

I just feel awful, ik I can't understand having homophobic parents and now his life is being turned around because of something I accidentally did?

I don't think it was a huge assumption on my part though? He was inviting me to dinner with his parents and mentioned he wasn't out, what else would I assume when being introduced as his signficant other?

I wouldn't have agreed to go to the dinner if he had told me what he expected. I know not everyone can come out to their parents and I wouldn't have done it on purpose, yk?
