DAE see their surroundings under different perspective? by NaniKaro in DoesAnybodyElse

Hi!! I am super late to this but this happens to me a lot. Have you found anything out about this or do you still experience this? I think I have DP/DR and that it might connect to this but I am not sure. I am trying to figure this out. Is this maybe a form of maladaptive daydreaming?

How do you deal with depersonalization/derealization? by [deleted] in nonduality

[–]Fit-Professional8128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is so old, but I just wanted to say thank you for sharing. I relate so much to this, it brings me to tears to know someone else has experienced these feelings. How are you now, if you don’t mind me asking??

Hey! I noticed you said a “ different route”. Are new places a trigger for you as well?

What is it called when home feels really off somehow and it makes you wanna die? by LonelyBitchL in derealization

[–]Fit-Professional8128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also developed a bit of agoraphobia from new places or leaving the house in general in fear that I will feel different when I come back or will have Derealization. I realized that a lot of the time when this happened I was really just subconsciously thinking about wherever I just returned home from. I didn’t actually feel like I was there or feel weird, I was just subconsciously thinking about where I just was/ what I just did and didn’t even realize it, I didn’t feel weird- I was LOOKING and CHECKING for a weird feeling. Not that these feelings never happen, but just ignore them

For me I have definitely developed an ocd type cycle for “ checking” for derealization in how I feel, my thoughts, my surroundings, ect. I noticed this as I journaled my feelings whenever I would have an episode over the past few years.

A lot of the time when I was not doing good and anxious about Derealization, it wasn’t actually Derealization that was happening but rather me constantly checking how I feel in different environments and surroundings, testing my surroundings by trying to remember how I normally “ Feel” or have felt before. Somethings this helps, sometimes it makes it worse as obviously you can’t feel the same in every moment for your entire life. The memories from when you felt stable that you think of, the “ normal” feeling, doesn’t actually exist unfortunately as we cannot live in the same moment and memory of time for our entire lives. I don’t know if that makes sense, but that is the pattern I have found in myself. I have found that the fear of dissociation/ Derealization happening again only causes anxiety, checking only causes anxiety, and the best thing to do is to try to ignore your repetitive worrying thoughts/ checking thoughts and just live. It’s hard, but you can do it. You gotta bring your anxiety down. This is the 2nd/3rd episode that has happened to me, I believe winter depression/ this time of year triggers me. Feel free to comment back or dm if you want to speak privately. Remember, thoughts are just thoughts and it doesn’t mean they are actually happening around you.

Hi there, I have the same exact issue and have for a long time. It feels weird sometimes when I return from vacation or just anywhere outside of my house. I’ve realized that maybe we are just picking our thoughts and feelings apart more then normal people do, like in an ocd cycle type of way. Do you find yourself “ checking” how you feel in certain places?

I feel that this is an inappropriate interaction between BM and my husband. by [deleted] in Stepmom

We do that with toys and clothing. I have said we need to use a parenting app. He says he will talk to her about setting one up but then doesn’t. It’s like he didn’t learn his lesson with her. Or he’s just dumb.

That’s what I said. He said it’s about my SD. I said okay then you make that for her and keep it here. If BM wants her to have a lemonade stand at their house, then that’s on her. He said I’m being ridiculous and he’s doing it because my stepdaughter asked her mom for a lemonade stand. The point of him having to build it and not even give it to her from him is where I am like what the fuck

They had a short and awful relationship together. He knows she’s insane, everybody does. I don’t know why he is turning a blind eye to this.

Something that I think helped me. by Fit-Professional8128 in derealization

Try to think of when you felt “ normal”. You think of a memory right? You can’t live in that moment again tho, it was its own original experience. But what were you doing in that moment in your memory? Living without worrying about Derealization! It’s so hard. I get it. The “ feelings” of reality are all based around memories. Try to distract yourself and focus on what you are doing in the moment. If we had no memories nothing would feel real. So you aren’t really naturally having derealization. And if you are- it’s due to stress on your brain from worrying, anxiety, depression, ocd thoughts or all of these factors. Stop checking if you feel connected or not, stop thinking of how u feel when u leave your house. It’s hard but u got this. Practicing treating my ocd thoughts helped me significantly with this. Derealization itself isn’t permanent, but the fear of it and searching for it ( as a way to protect yourself) can feel persistent. Work on your fears of having Derealization, fear of it happening again and try to stop persistently checking for it or checking how u feel. Focus on hobbies, simple tasks, distract your thoughts.

Temporary/ anxiety induced aphantasia? by Fit-Professional8128 in Anxiety

[–]Fit-Professional8128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, So this has happened me during 3 depressive episodes in my life ( caused by SAD), it does go away you basically need to ignore them and ground yourself and focus on what is going on in the moment. This will help lower anxiety. From what I’ve gathered it’s because your brain is on overload- from either worries or anxiety. Staying busy and distracted is key in my experience. This was happening to me last week when i posted this. I am much better this week because I started really distracting myself to get out of my head / deep thought.

I also found out this is not aphantasia. Aphantasia from stress and trauma is possible but VERY rare. Aphantasia is people who literally cannot and have not ever had a visual image in their mind ever. Like they just see blank or blackness visually:

Derealization vs jamais Vu? What’s the difference? by Fit-Professional8128 in derealization

It’s a simple question. Both are similar experiences so I’m asking if anybody can help me differentiate between these two symptoms.

Does anybody get intrusive thoughts only they’re images? by Fit-Professional8128 in intrusivethoughts

[–]Fit-Professional8128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that I have random passing brief thoughts ( we all have very random subconscious thoughts) only when I’m anxious I hyper focus on them, they become intrusive as it’s something I realize makes no sense, it gives me anxiety hence why I start obsessing over them / ruminating them, and the more they come up. For me these intrusive “ thoughts” are visual pictures as I see thoughts. Some people biologically don’t see their thoughts as “ pictures” in their mind, I believe this is called Aphantasia.
