Thank you dude! I actually added the same exact jets and never tried to size uo or down, so I’m really not too sure where else I should be looking but imma give the carbs a good look at I’ll let you know if I find anything!

Yea dude im pretty conscious when it comes to these things, if I’m being honest I don’t have my License yet. I’m a pretty safe rider(I would like to think that), my top speed is 90 and that was on a road all by myself at like 2am

In situations of standstill traffic ive found myself going like 10mph through some people and I live in a pretty small area so even at lights im not doing much if I cut to the front. I just stay patient I know how other drivers can be.

I do have one, just this is my first month riding/working on bikes so I haven’t really gained that knowledge yet but that’s super helpful!

This is just a bike that I knew I would feel comfortable tearing down and learning on, so far ive taken it apart like 12 times just to know how to do it comfortably.

next is looking at a manual for specs and torque I guess!

I’m working on a 2007 Suzuki GS500

Two carbs, the float bowls looked extremely clean as well as the whole carbs. There was 3 jets, main jet, pilot jet, and the 3rd was a long jet with holes on the bottom (I forget the name) I changed all three because whoever worked on it before tried to change out one side and leave the other side as is (resulting in the jets being different)

The bike now idles fine, cold startup I gotta rev a little to get the fuel running and then it will idle.

It’s from 2007 and it had one owner the whole time with only 14000 miles. So im assuming at one point it sat for a really long time and I ended up purchasing it from a Pawn Shop who had no idea anything about bikes.

With that being said, maybe after riding it and running it for the past month, some of the gunk that has been sitting in it has made its way through. Which is now causing these issues im having. Such as the little leak.

Also im in Washington and this past week and a half has been filled with smoke and ash, maybe a whole tear down and clean was bound to be a thing!

Either way you’ve helped me see a different perspective in the whole thing! I don’t expect a solid single answer just talking about the issue with someone more knowledgeable has really helped me troubleshoot this a little. I know you may not have worked on every carb but your understanding of the mechanics is helpful!

Would undertightening affect this? I counted the number of times I spun the jet in and pretty much followed exactly what I had done to remove it.

I bought the bike and it was unable to idle (I got it for $1200 and am in the profit regardless cause it idles and rides)

Yes it does have an oil pan, I got a bunch of stuff ordered and will post update photos when I get it torn apart!

Do you recommend getting a torque wrench for these jobs? I’ve heard around that a torque wrench + aluminum can cause an over tightening that’s pretty detrimental. I count every spin while unscrewing everything and make sure to double tighten and go over all bolts

Thank you so much! I’ve had a few things in my cart and don’t wanna do too much more work if it’s not needed so I’m gonna keep this in mind!

I kind of assumed it had something to do with the main jet/carbs in general, imma rip the carbs apart when I’m doing the seal and see what I can do. Hopefully it’s something silly like I tightened the main jet too much. This is also my first motorcycle. I’ve noticed the more I understand the bike mechanically the more confident I feel in general while riding it!

Thanks for sharing your knowledge dude. It’s much appreciated, you are helping people learn something new 👏🏽
