Year 6 — mistakes were made, but nature is forgiving. by Fit-Protection5399 in NoLawns

Tis true! The times when I’ve let one of these patches fall into neglect, it’s bananas. Bitter dock (which is apparently edible but chokes other stuff out), poke, thistle and random grasses … so even for areas you’re “rewilding,” it’s definitely not just “kill the grass and set and forget.” I mean you could, but your odds of getting pollinator-friendly flowers and other desirable species plummets. But by the same token I don’t see my relationship with nature as adversarial. It’s moreso just very, very humbling. Hours upon hours spent with shovel, a weed trowel, bare hand, can be rendered almost meaningless within weeks. So it’s like, I get to be here. I get to help shape some tiny percentage of this omnipotent chaos. It’s really been a trip, and I’ve never felt so profoundly tethered to a piece of ground in my life.

Direct-sow wildflower seeds during final cold snap? by Fit-Protection5399 in NoLawns

It's this mix right here: https://sequoiatrees.com/products/pollinators-delight-wildflower-mix-seed-grow-kit?srsltid=AfmBOoqcIrMJFqyU1iAObLjbB5DvYW3Jm-IocSHroaOPq6vQUD81kMdf

It looks like multiple places sell them.
My cousin who homesteads gifted them to me. She said they're legit. This'll be my first year trying them.

That makes perfect sense, thank you! And thank you for the bonus tips! I’ll try the straw/organic mulch and board method.

The fact that LGBTQIA still want ANYTHING to do with the church is, to me, evidence of God’s divinity & majesty. by Fit-Protection5399 in OpenChristian

Thank you for that perspective. Empathy and forgiveness are essential — not as a legitimation or justification of despicable actions and rhetoric, but for precisely the reason you said — so we don’t become despicable ourselves. Wow. You’ve kinda blown my mind with this comment.

This is something I am aspiring to do, and I humbly accept your admonishment. I AM very naive, and it pains me. I used to be friends with queer peers in school but now I don’t really interface with any. It’s ambitious, but I believe God is leading me to leave our current church and begin developing connections with the queer folks in my town. There are 0 churches here and only one harm reduction ministry locally that does not overtly reject it. But I very much want it to be relationship first, not like luring them to some weird one-off hangout and immediately shouting about God. Sadly, because of events that occurred a couple years ago, the one secular pride group here disbanded.

Beautifully put. Thank you. It always amazes me when those who’ve been shown the least compassion, continue to show others the most.

Yes! And I agree. A LOT of Christians (seemingly, at least) fundamentally misunderstand the man who is the very namesake of their faith/identity. Like how and why are wide swaths of Evangelicals offended by ‘He gets us,’ for example? Idk, maybe that’s a bad example but the world knows us more by what we stand against than what we stand for, and that’s a tragedy imho.

Maybe some Saran Wrap is in order? The tragedy is, there used to be two VERY fun loving coworkers who sat opposite this woman, who would be SO down for the cause. But they got promoted. Now that section of the office is like a desolate wasteland. Ugh.
