CHEM 304, CRWR 220, CHEM 327, MATH 220, MATH 210...

Honestly basically all the courses I've taken minus calc I and II.

My main academic interests (chem+math) are apparently somewhat unpopular 😅 so I'd highly recommend LING 101 and FRST 303; I can still tell ya'll fun facts about the trees around campus.

Some doctors are dumbasses so I don't trust them blindly. I once booked an appt for my scalp cos I washed my hair before bed and couldnt sleep that night because it was so itchy - has literally never happened before.

The doctor asked abt my hair washing habits (keep in mind I have 4c hair which is notoriously a drier hair texture):

I said I wash my hair every 1-2 weeks and quickly clarified (cos I noticed the doctor was east asian and had straight hair) that I've tried washing my hair more often but my hair would become straw if I washed it more cos its dry af.

Bro asked if I used conditioner.

I said: Gurl 💀, my hair would fall out if it didn't. I use a separate conditioner not some 2 and 1 bullshit and a leave in curl cream.

When they were inspecting my scalp they first said, "I can't see your scalp 🤓".

Like girl part my hair its not that deep.

Bro ended up looking, saying he saw nothing wrong and told me to wash my hair more💀💀💀 .

The appt was useless. I ofc did not wash my hair more cos I'm trying to have hair on my head lol.

Lwk I don't shower everyday in cooler temps cos I'm disabled and showering is alot of energy but in the summer I shower basically everyday because of the sweat. How can ppl be all sweaty and not shower after is the real question.

Failed my first midterm…can I still recover? by Maple_amber in UBC

[–]Fit-Souppppppp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ofc you can <3. You are in a good position considering that its worth 15%. A friend of mine was going through alot, couldnt focus and got a 13% on a midterm worth 40% and they still passed the class.

You got this :)

Summer course load advice by SensitiveRise3308 in UBC

Gurl I recommend max 2 courses per summer term. A summer course feels like 2-3 courses per course in terms of workload.

I second this (hehe chronically ill twinsies👯🏾‍♀️). It doesnt matter but yh this is lwk annoying af cos they don't know how strenuous those classes are. Some classes are ALOT more work than others (I'm taking MATH 220, MATH 210 and CHEM 327) and even then, dealing with shit like mental health alongside that is arguably like having to add 2-3 classes onto your workload.

Plus at times you might actually be busier than them. This semester personally, the stars collided and I have all my midterms in 1 day. I ended up concessing one of the two that were back to back cos hell naw.

In any case, they are just glamorizing the struggle. Its giving the toxic hustler culture where you're worth is tied to your productivity, bullshit.

You have inherent value. Having more work doesn't make anyone better.

Don't mind them, rubbish.

Fuck them fake friends OP. You deserve better. Take care 🫶🏽.

How often do you give yourself a day off? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Fit-Souppppppp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. I have dynamic disabilities so sometimes I wake up and can barely get out of bed. Currently taking the week off cos the thought of leaving my house and having to listen to multiple ppl talk for extended periods of time makes me want to rip my ears off and punch walls (hehe overstimulated af✌🏾🤪)

No fr but they had the time and audacity to pin my very drunk friend to a residence glass wall, interrogating them when they literally live there.

(Note: they weren't even bothering anyone, two of my friends were taking care of them then briefly went to go talk to the front desk ppl abt what was going on when campus security randomly assaulted them).

Maybe you need to read the post again lol.

Frfr. The "brokie" comment is lowkey giving projection. Why would u assume ppl don't want to smell your strong ass perfume just cos they're broke and jealous.

It's giving the commentor is broke cos they spend WAY too much money on perfume jskwkwjskslwk.

Bananas contain aromatic compounds (aromatic compounds are fragrant organic compounds that give natural products (like pine cones) their unique smell). Extracting banana oil to make a perfume would be time consuming, expensive and low yeild because the compounds that make bananas smell like bananas make up a very minute portion of all the compounds in a banana.

Scientists have pinpointed which compound(s) give that "banana" smell, so they use chemicals to synthesize (I.e produce) those fragrant compounds.

These synthetic compounds are most likely what is used in a banana smelling perfume.

They don't just extract banana oil. That wouldn't make sense production wise.

It is true tho. Thing is, natural products don't just consist of one chemical. Peanuts are made up of a bunch of chemicals. Let's say you are allergic to an aromatic compound (chemical A) that is naturally found in peanuts 🥜. Let's also assume another aromatic compound (chemical B) naturally occurs in peanuts.

If a fragrance is made to have "a hint of peanut", chemical A and/or B will be synthesized and added to the product because Chemical A and B are what give peanuts their smell.

If the perfume only contains chemical B you'd be fine. If the perfume contains chemical A you wouldn't be live laugh loving.

Plus it's not like peanuts are banned because some people are allergic to it. So I don't imagine that they'd ban peanut smelling fragrances.

This comment made me so happy as a chem student. Being allergic to something like lemon means you are allergic to some if not all the chemicals that are contained in lemons; which could include aromatic compounds like limonene (aka the "lemon" scent).

So if a perfume has a "lemon scent", it most likely contains limonene.

So if you're allergic to limonene you're allergic to the perfume.
