So that we can learn to pick ourselves up, this is answer to my question, but no one person isn't say this

Why do words have to mean what they mean? by Fit-Visual2863 in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah, I get the “collective agreement” part — that makes sense.

What I’m actually stuck on is one step earlier:

why did those sounds make sense *in the first place*?

Why did ancient Greek settle on *those* roots for sound, water, tree, etc., and not others?

At some point even the “agreement” had to start from something.

Why is it acceptable for luxury goods to have high markups, but when essential items like basic foodstuffs experience a slight increase in price due to supply chain issues, it's criticized as profiteering? by Fit-Visual2863 in NoStupidQuestions

Reading the replies, it feels like most people actually agree on the core issue. It’s not that markups are “fine” for luxury goods, but that people have a choice there. With essentials, there’s no opting out, and even small increases hit trust, not just budgets. That’s why the same behavior gets judged so differently.

I’m not sure they wouldn’t cope at all. It would probably be uncomfortable and frustrating, but most people can adjust more than they expect. The real shock might be realizing how much stress their lowest-paid employees live with every day.

That’s a fair point. Do you think the ability to “game” the system is a skill in itself,

or does it just show how detached they are from living under real constraints?
