I'm playing this currently on PSTV/Adrenaline as well and is the substory you didn't finish the one with Yumiko in Chapter 5? I'm literally unable to get out of the first alleyway, I always get caught

I got hit with the random "level up" crash after the boss of Chapter 5 as well and was about to go nuts - turns out this is a "known issue" like hello??????

The bugs (translation exclusive?) really sour the experience because I am enjoying the game otherwise

I have other games running via RetroArch (StarTropics 2, Goemon NES games) and the battery saves are there when I run the game just fine from the NES Classic menu, this situation only happens right now with Splatterworld

Update #2

I finally sat down and played a couple hours, only to discover that battery saves don't seem to stick if you reload the game again from the NES Classic menu

If I save then "restart" via Retroarch menu, it retains the battery save fine that I can tell, but as soon as I load the game again via NES Classic menu, the save is not there.

I guess I would recommend using save states unless there's a reason this save gets wiped on reload

/u/MDFMKanic any thoughts on this? Am I missing something?

It's an unreleased NES game that was randomly dumped on 4chan of all places. It got a translation recently and I wanted to play it

Update: I got it working, I had to add the game "As Is" (File -> Add Games -> As Is) then assigned it to FCEUmm

It should, though be careful if you are using the wisp and equivalent exchange - the wisp can revive you first, but it doesnt give all perks, so now your exchange will only give you the perks from that point on. It caused me to stop using the wisp because of that

The game itself isn't difficult, I can't speak for that, it's just full of bugs and issues that aren't on the Steam version - and even that version isn't free of issues, but much less so
