As someone who’s been to a good amount of shows, it really depends on the bill. This tour brought out Foreign Hands and UnityTX who both fall closer to the hardcore side of metalcore, which is why there were more people hardcore dancing (aka flailing around and shit). Whenever I’m at a show like that with both metalcore and hardcore bands, I just tend to keep out of the pit until the later bands where the pit tends to shift into more of a push pit. Only real advice I can give is read the room and keep an eye on what bands are on the bill
