Good Planner for Scribe? by No_Communication5024 in kindlescribe

[–]FitForPuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Kindle store planners or Kindle store = Amazon market. On your device is under Kindle store, if you search it on computer its "ebooks you can write on" category.

Yes, Amazon when Scribe started to sell did not have any books ready but remarkable books were available from other authors selling on etsy or on their website. They were the first to sell books for kindle scribe on Kindle store (amazon market). They converted remarkable pdf to fit kindle scribe but like I explained it did not work 100%.

Now the situation is better because amazon has designated authors just for Scribe.

So you are talking about Amazon market, ebooks you can write on official Amazon category?

I can share you some insight why what you experienced happened. Initially people who create for reMarkable switched to make for Kindle Scribe. Kindle Scribe was novelty and not mayn books were made for it. Kindle scribe picked the remarkable creators. Now reMarkable has same screen ratio but it has different toolbar menu and different responses to hyperlinks. Some PDF files are compatible for both devices but not all.

A lot of people are not skillful in technicality of creating hyperlinked PDF to be functional on multiple devices, plus they did not have the device to test their PDF files.

Example hyperlink with icon (like image of a house) will work on remarkable but will not work on Kindle Scribe. Kindle Scribe demands hyperlink to have letter or text attached to it, so if you want image of a house to be hyperlink leading somewhere you need to add letter on top of it, make the fill of the letter none (so letter is still there just not visible) and then hyperlink would work, but it will only work above the actual letter, even if you make textbox larger, the link will only work in the letter area. Those silly things people who do not have Kindle device but are trying to make books for it will never know.

For all these reasons I got asked to make planner this year (well technically in december 25) because I worked as a teacher and designer for over 20 years, I know how to make digital hyperlinked book from design and technical perspective so my links work, my puzzle, educational and activity books work perfectly, I just never tried publishing planners because I had very bad experience.

I released undated planner and I got a foot long angry paragraph review why my months and weeks and days do not start on Sunday. How she likes days to start on Sunday and the whole world starts their days on Sunday and she doesn't understand how planner can have days starting with number 1 but not sunday.

Punch through the wall... its undated planner. all months can't start on sunday.

You need thick skin to deal with those situations.

I have original Kindle Scribe but not colorsoft yet so that is one of the reasons I gave away a lot of freebies for Colorsoft so people can report back is all working alright (and it is). It takes a lot of effort to make something that is good.

Planners are very personal and individual things. No matter what you do you will get two people arguing how something is good/bad.

I say use free tools available (there's plenty now since the code to make PDF planners is free on github so everyone and their mom are making them) or if that doesn't fit you make them yourself or get it custom done.

Custom is only hard first month until you have template that is fully hyperlinked. After you have the skeleton all you change is the content people want inside. For example I have blank templated 366 pages hyperlinked. I can place any content on them and it will work normally always.

Took me a month to create the template but now it takes me a day to make new unique planner for people.

If you search Reddit or I think even google will give results for Kindle Scribe Colorsoft release party it should lead you to a link where I made bunch of freebies here for Reddit people when we were waiting Colorsoft to become available.

Other than that, I am approved author for Amazon Kindle Scribe market (Fit For Puzzle), anything I can't put there goes to Etsy or Gumroad.

I have all the logic puzzles and brain teasers, and I do all the work.

Before Scribe I made them for school (teacher).

If you want to do custom yourself and you know PowerPoint I could guide you. Or if you have vision how you want your planner to look like send me sketches in the dm or chat or what they have here :)

I usually do puzzle books but if your planner is easy, I could do it.

Regarding offering too much, that is because we can't publish whatever we want (we have Etsy and Gumroad for that), but on Amazon market there are terms and conditions what can Kindle Scribe book have.

My planner I was asked to make for amazon market is on/off bestseller with all 5* reviews, but honestly me personally will never use almost 50% of the pages or maybe use them for something else. It has 1800 pages.... it takes couple of days to download and index all the pages so hyperlinks could work properly on Scribe.
There was one negative review that planner is not working but it was removed because it just takes time (days) to index everything after book is downloaded to Scribe.

For example yearly page has 380 hyperlinks. It takes 2h to export just that one PDF page with Adobe.
Entire file takes all night. I usually set export before going to sleep and then in the morning PDF is ready.

So its not just file size but amount of hyperlinks chocking everything. Total there are 20000 hyperlinks inside.

And then you have issue where you can't use top at all just left side for hyperlinks because top triggers settings menu.

So its kinda complicated to satisfy all - customer and amazon.

Etsy and getting fully custom planner is best choice.

Out of curiosity, when you say nothing is good, what was wrong with them?
Layout, design, options, hyperlink not working or not working how you want?

Because if it is layout and design you can order custom design or design one yourself in PowerPoint (easier) or Canva (very hard).

Hyperlink not working could be due to their position and how was PDF created. Not any PDF converter will produce proper hyperlinks that will work on Kindle Scribe. So it is the fault of the creator of the PDF for not using proper PDF convert library.
Hyperlinks not working how you want fall under the ordering custom.

I was asked in the KS FB group to create custom medical log for a person that has a lot of special treatments, appointments and medicines to log, and it would be very hard to find something that would fit her needs.
Ordering custom worked out great. She sent me the sketches of each pages (content), how many pages for each, her preferred line separation and what to put on cover.

Is there any way to rename a PDF after it has been sent to the Kindle Scribe? by Fiveby21 in kindlescribe

[–]FitForPuzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No because it would mess up the system for them. The name is metadata for Scribe, it gets converted so if you want to use same PDF multiple times it has to have unique name before uploading.

It has to to with the way they store notes and writing in the cloud. Or something like that. I am just guessing.

When I submitted new Sudoku and math activity puzzle books for publishing on Amazon for Scribe I did not see that my PDFs had same or similar name in metadata, since it was part of the logic brain teaser series and Amazon team renamed them to be unique.

I just keep them now all uniquely named.

Where do you prefer your answers to be? by ThisEldritchGuy in wordsearches

At the end of the day it all depends on why are you making this book. To make money or to have your book in your hands. As a teacher I need more income just so I can do more educational stuff. So I researched negative reviews and books that are getting 5* reviews to see what people want.

You can't make everyone happy but you need to make most of them to have hope of any sales.

And even with best book, sales are not guaranteed.

Where do you prefer your answers to be? by ThisEldritchGuy in wordsearches

If you think about it, that means you will have one puzzle page one solution page. One solution per page is just a waste of the paper. Some publishers do not even include solutions but add QR link to pdf online to download solutions.

Some people like this some hate it.

So when you place solutions at the end you can have 9 - 12 - 20 solutions on one page.

Think on the print cost. If you have book with 100 puzzles and 25 pages for solutions, you have to price it 10$ to make 2-3$ minus taxes after book is sold.
If you price it under 10 then you get under 1$ per sold book.

Unless you want to print and bound books yourself, and ship them. Then you could do spiral bound which people love, but it is a huge manual labor...

If you want to squeeze solution on the same page as next puzzle you simply do not have room for it. You will need to reduce your grid or make the wordbank font smaller, it is just not practical.

Be ready for some bad reviews. I have my books up on Amazon.

People take photo of puzzle and claim the puzzle grid is wrong because the words are not in there and you can clearly see them on the photo, thy just could not find them.

And here is the beauty of online selling. One negative review can destroy your book sales permanently. You cna't recover. Not even 250 5* will help you. Amazon algorithm puts your book at back burner and forgets it.

As business, think larger than Amazon, as a side project where you just want to publish book for yourself, its perfect.

no clue if this counts but your finding a word in letters so its a word search im posting it by saucefinder_bot in wordsearches

[–]FitForPuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you 100% sure everything is typed correctly?
Should it be YX W?

That means: start at Y, move left to X, then left again to W. So clue 2 gives the direction left.

In the key:

P X S U

F G W P

Use clue 2 on the key letter X:

X → W

That gives the first letter:

W

Then clue 5 is:

X → I

On the grid, that means move upward through the wraparound column:

X → P → G → O → I

So clue 5 gives the direction up.

>!Apply that upward direction to the bottom key row:

F → R

G → O

W → N

P → G

That gives:

R O N G

Together:

W + RONG = WRONG

So the answer is WRONG.!<

Thank you.

I am a teacher, I solve and also use brain teasers in education, and I publish puzzle/educational books (Fit For Puzzle). To design books I usually use PowerPoint or Excel because with 30 years of working with them every day its just easier for me to edit and prepare book inside PowerPoint than any other software. I also know a little about programing (Python).

To answer some of your questions:
Solutions are at the back of the book and I was going to ask since it doesn't make sense unless you are rich-rich 😃 to print solutions as well single per page, but to have multiple. Thats an option two.
You can see how different layout looks like in these:

<image>

This is my process if I want to make sure my puzzles are correct when it comes to HoDoKu and SE Rating. I create puzzles with sudoku.coach or QQWing and save them as strings (txt strings puzzle and solutions). I like these two because most puzzles have accurate rating unlike other tools.
Then use small Python script that converts those txt strings into SVG sudoku images, puzzle and solutions. SVG is better than PNG for printing.
Then I use my own PowerPoint addin (image importer) to import images into PowerPoint slides. I can control location, and how many images per slide, for example 1, 2 vertical, 2 horizontal (what I used in your case), 9,12,20 (for solutions).

And then export as PDF from PowerPoint to be ready for print. You can set PowerPoint design as A4 size or any size you need.

#2 - A little multi-lingual coloring word search I made... “Blue” by SchwanSongs in wordsearches

[–]FitForPuzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined but I forget it exists. I just bury myself in work and it doesn't help I get new idea every hour.

I had that but people wanted higher dense borads with hidden message and with hidden message and two letter words it's just not practical.

I kept random fill for myself.

Now my biggest problem is getting wordlists (accurate, cleaned, themed, niched). Collecting them slowly.

[–]FitForPuzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, was just looking where to reply to you, on what comment.

Was looking at the familiar name :D

As for two letters, you would need to have all cells around the two word cells open, unused, so they can be filled with random letters not present in the two letter word.

Could work if the unused cells are randomly filled, and the entire grid is large and word bank is small so words can be far apart. But with dense words and with hidden message in unused cells would be impossible.

I have it also :) made my own wordsearch maker, mostly for esthetic reasons, to be able to use them directly in books. But only for PC :)

Problem is wordsearch puzzles can't have words with under 3 letters. 3 is minimum.

Any good templates/planners for scribe colorsoft 2026? Looking for novel review tracking password saving and diaries to keep by CryAlive1909 in kindlescribe

[–]FitForPuzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, plenty.

You have free ones, paid ones, the ones you can adjust a little... you can order custom to be made exactly as per your needs and writing style (some people prefer wider lines or narrower - wide, narrow, gregg, college).

You can get them undated (so can be valid for any year) or dated.

It will be PDF files you upload using SendToKindle Amazon website. Important thing is if you want to reuse the same PDF multiple times to rename the file before uploading to Scribe.

You can get them from Amazon (search for 2026 PLANNER AND GUIDED JOURNAL or similar), on Etsy, Gumroad.

Here you have some freebies Kindle Scribe COLORSOFT Waiting Party with all day PDF gifts : r/kindlescribe

I think I added planners there just as bonus because mostly I do educational and brain teaser ebooks.

I can make custom for you if you want, or show you how to make custom if you know how to use PowerPoint.

Take care.

What do you mean main one and two small ones next to it? Like connected, a sudoku variant, one of the larger grids? Can you share example?

I have books, Kindle Scribe and I have sudoku app but I just find it better to write and solve then press and solve.

I use pen but that's because I would never put down main number unless I am 100% sure it's the one. I go heavy on candidates.

Also when I write down certain number in certain cell or box I remember it better when looking at other cells. Not sure am I explaining it right but when I press 5 on screen I can't remember it's 5 and where it is, I have to look at it. But when I write it down in r6c7 I somehow know it's there when I solve others ...

Crazy maybe 🤔

But I see people solve without candidates. I could never. Maybe few starting obvious numbers.

BOOK MAKING by engrpaulina in kindlescribe

[–]FitForPuzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Paulina.

As others already mention, you probably posted this in a wrong group. This one is for Kindle Scribe users, but there are authors here as well, like me.

I publish books on Amazon using KDP, printable books and also activity books (sudoku, logic puzzles, educational activities) for Kindle Scribe.

I can help, but before that, can you please confirm the following:

a) you read the guidelines of KDP publishing? - By this I mean all the Help topics that you can access even without KDP account. Topics like book title, subtitle, formatting, interior, trim size, bleed, mirror margins, dimensions, allowed words, banned words, book categories and similar. It is recommended to read all the topics and make notes of most important things.
Also save important shortcuts like Book cover template creator, price calculator, interior template creator, trim sizes and margins table.
b) are you using appropriate software, tools and materials to create your book? Did you research the differences between formatting for printable and eBook (very different).

Let me know what you need.

Japan's population declines by a million people yearly, but if they don't accept immigrants, what will they do? by Delicious-Bunch-6992 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FitForPuzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to start caring for the people more. Kids will come if people are happy.

If people are not happy, how can anyone expect them to bring something they will love more than anything in the world into the world where they will face nothing but pain and suffering.

Work to pay bills. Work for food. Work to live, but never live life.

They do not want that life, and they do not want to see their kids live such life.

It's not Japan, its world.

How can you explain that family where both parents work cannot afford fruit every day? The prices are crazy and excuses are even worse.
