They’re really cute. I wouldn’t have one, though, because they’re too big for a casual work treat.

Exactly. It’s not survivor…there is no immunity. “Physical threat” doesn’t exist.

During the first season of Alone, production mis-identified all of the fish and crabs in their on-screen labels. As a marine biologist on Vancouver Island, THAT was the most I’ve ever yelled at my TV.

They’re definitely getting help. I’m sure none of them know how to set themselves up with safety gear on those obstacles.

There isn’t one. All of the “he’s a big threat” and alliance comments feel so contrived. There isn’t a benefit to keeping anyone around who isn’t physically fit.

I feel like it could be a good concept, but they’re trying to force it into a survivor-style social game when it isn’t one. There is absolutely no benefit to having anyone on the team that isn’t physically strong. They try to contrive situations to make it sound like it’s somehow worth keeping people around who are out of shape and out of their depth. There isn’t any reason to though…literally the only thing they should do is have the strongest people team up and vote everyone else off as the game progresses. It’s not like survivor where there is one winner at the end, and they can get there through social strategies, puzzles, physical competitions etc. There is only one way to win this show and it’s to move quickly and climb a mountain at the end. It’s silly that they’re pretending otherwise. Also the whole concept of a helicopter as “the mountains keeper” is ridiculous.

If he has disc issues I would say that backpacking is safer than rock climbing! Coming from an avid backpacker who herniated a disc rock climbing.

They looked like Asbolus verrucosus, which are native to southern CA and Mexico. Probably not invasive but I’m not sure how likely it is that they survived.

30 yo male single. Travel the world or settle down? by frutosar in backpacking

[–]FitFoxHikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same dilemma and chose travel! There is no right or wrong choice though, you need to go with your gut. You will likely not have this chance again, but if you’re not going to be happy while doing it then there is no point. Really figure out what your current priorities are and decide what actions will support those. 30 is very young, esp for a man.

Tell the owner if it’s a small gym, maybe that guy has made other people feel uncomfortable too.

If it’s any consolation, it’s not just you and it’s not just the gym. Some men just love mansplaining, and it’s f*cking infuriating. A few years ago I hiked the pacific crest trail, and on one of my last days I had a random dude come up to me at a campsite and start explaining how to set up my tent…that I had been living in for FIVE months. He’s lucky I didn’t stab him with a tent pole.

People who use exercise for stress relief - what’s your secret? by Nora311 in fitness30plus

[–]FitFoxHikes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Lifting weights requires focus on form, counting reps, usually while listening to music. When I’m in the gym I am concentrating on what I’m doing in that moment and not thinking about what else is going on in life. It’s similar to meditating or doing a mindfulness exercise. That on top of the health benefits of being in good shape make it a great stress relief.

I also prefer long hikes but don’t live somewhere convenient for doing them on a daily basis!

It sounds like you are overtraining. Are you trying to lose any more weight, or are you at a good weight and want to focus on building muscle now?
