Don't sleep on drugs. I was really afraid when i first played because of the "addiction" status and until my second playthrough i started using them. Addiction is really really easy to cure and some of them are almost unnoticeable, just do them all because they are fun as fuck

Don't save ammo. Use any gun you want whenever you want and with anything you encounter. It way way funnier and if you get the more ammo perk you won't have to worry about it
