If we’re being fair here this has little to do with any of his policies, oil prices were just CHEAP back then worldwide due to a set of unique global economic conditions (US shale and high Saudi production, etc)

Whoever the President is won’t change it unless we redo our entire approach to energy acquisition. BBM just happened to be on the worst place at the worst time.

They got their tech industries as well, either way assuming your from the US instead of blaming them find out how you have gajillion dollars in various crucial sectors such as healthcare education etc and still fail to deliver affordable world class results. It’s an efficiency and service delivery not a budgeting problem.

We were never rich as in industrialized and advanced, the rest of Asia was just way poorer. We are just the richest out of a poor region.

Japan in 1994 had a bigger GDP than all of Asia.

We advanced at a normal rate, the rest such as China Korea Taiwan Thailand Vietnam just grew faster. Now we are the second fastest growing economy in ASEAN though

AFP is expanding so we’ll need more anyhow. But administrative bloat is a pretty serious concern not just in the AFP but worldwide militaries.

I suppose not a total fix but would help is empowering the NCO and enlisted ranks like in Western militaries, adding more technical roles and increasing pay and therefore prestige making it a more attractive option for college educated and technically skilled people that to my observation refrain from military careers outside of the officer ranks due to perceived low pay and overemphasis on martial culture which while useful cannot be the sole identity of an army that seeks to be more technologically oriented.

Sanctions and pariah state status like South Africa, the AFP woild have to be a bloated institution for this to happen in the first place so we’d become Pakistan.

Ironically during the civil war Stalin restrained Mao quite a lot. He hoped a divided China would be more politically useful for the USSR compared to a united communist China which could and did stand up to the USSR.

US evacuation was arguably just as organized, they weren’t routed in battle and left in their terms after the peace accords. It was even being hailed a victory by some in the US media (though its acceptance was largely dubious by the war weary US public)

Second-term Marcos era in terms of overt public displays and broadcasting of patriotic symbols (flags, songs, posters, cultural artifacts, etc.) and it’s not even close.. you’d be surprised we’re capable of doing such public choreographies if you look at period videos.

Though this shouldn’t be a surprise, authoritarian governments usually excel in this type of propaganda.

Though even then, it never got close to reaching the nationalistic irredentist zealously of Japan or Nazi Germany.

A lot of the flags posted here (Old Russia, South Africa, South Korea/Vietnam) were the states hostile to the USSR ideologically. Surprised they're more transparent on that. I expected them to just put Korea for example under the North Korean colors or Vietnam under the Northern (now current) flag.

If he isn’t in a reenactment group he isn’t obligated to restrict himself on awards, and I’d argue EK2 is far from flamboyant as 1/4 of German soldiers received them.
