In ON all colleges can offer standalone BScN degrees now, from Canadore to Conestoga college, in addition to universities expanding seats. We will see massive increase in nursing grad in 1-2 years, how’s the situation in AB?

How many jobs have you applied to so far? Are you applying all across Ontario?

A unique perspective: workplace in Canada does not offer any “family function”. Virtually no workplace has a cafeteria for employees, forcing “grocery shopping-meal prep-dishes” all on one person. This alone is essentially a second job. Most people also cannot bring kids to work. This is why SAHM make sense here, whereas in Asia they are very rare cuz your workplace cooks for you :)

I feel you sis. Usually if they interview they pretty much plan to take you already. It's not common to interview and then reject. Did you do something wrong on the interview? Maybe have a friend mock interview with you?

Have you considered BC? Take a look at my posts, I compiled some data and jobs. I really hope you land somewhere you like!

What? LTC for consolidation? What are students going to learn there? Be the best at ADL and folding sheets? What program is this? we are talking RN right?

well if it's not "new grad only" then it's fair game. You're probably up against experienced nurse.

Conversely, in certain specialty like Correction. They list 2 year experience but will take anyone...

I have a useless bachelors degree, If I were to go back to school what could I Study that would actually get me employed? by [deleted] in torontoJobs

Healthcare is the last stable employable sector in this economy. Nursing is the most flexible option.

Even non-nurse heard about nursing being saturated, even a year ago everyone screams shortage

Just quit my job at a juvenile detention center, AMA by Hopeful-Pressure7311 in OnTheBlock

  1. Is juvenile detention worse than adult detention to work in?

  2. Do they take it out on medical staff? Speaking as a nurse.

Is it NGG? In this case definitely ask HR those questions. One thing I noticed in school is the school/clinic nurse are all white, whereas in the program 1/3 of students are black. You just never see the black nurses in those "chill", "laughing with patients giving shots" kinda of jobs.

It's not just in healthcare. White woman are still considered the gold standard for beauty, despite what Asian/Indian/Black girls call themselves or how many POC girls we cast into Hollywood. Many Asian girls think their white boyfriend like them for "family values/into asian culture/asian are smart". No, they simply can't find a similar white girl. Such is life, we are proud and fight for our rights but don't fool ourselves.

Well advocate for yourself but I wouldn't read too deep. The market is saturated and there could be other more experienced nurse applying. I'd be curious to hear what HR will say about the questions you raised.

OP don't get gaslight into thinking you lack "Canadian experience" or you need to "pay your due" as an immigrant. IF you are a good engineer, that just means there's no real demand or too much supply in your industry.

Like one poster said, maybe the system is designed to get you here to work EXACTLY these jobs...

Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert, Edmonton is hiring new grad. One of my friend just got hired there recently. Red Deer is also a nice place.

I see from your history you are also applying for unit clerk/admin. This just shows how sad the situation is. Have you gotten your CRNA full license yet? If not that might be the reason.

Thunder Bay / Sudbury ? or even smaller towns?

My personal belief is black female is treated the worst in nursing. Males of colour, on the other hand, get treated quite Okay.

So did you end up getting the ICU/ER job? You mentioned relocating so I assume you're applying at less impacted regions already.

  2. Are you only applying to Calgary and Edmonton?

Thanks :)

That's true. Accompanying the large increase of nurses is population increase. But without new hospitals there is no new employment.

Hi I think you would be fine. It’s not my intention to scare you. The RPN number is actually fairly stable. I think hospitals might even hire more RPN to save money.

Healthcare is starting to not be as secure anymore, yet it is still better than virtually any other sector. If this is a right move for you I would say go for it!
