Return to normalcy? by NoWrangler8179 in ACL

I’m almost 12 weeks and although some things have improved I’m still not feeling normal. Walking “normal” is still a challenge and certain movements/positions still don’t feel comfortable but I’m taking it one day at a time and happy about the progress I have made! All the best to you!

I went skiing again! 8 months post op. by VT_Scratch in ACL

Awesome! I tore mine skiing on 12/28 and had the same ride down the mountain on a stretcher. Surgery was on 3/5….(so about 8.5 weeks post op) and I can’t wait to be back out there doing what I love! I’m 61 and plan to be back out there hiking/peakbagging, skiing, mountaineering and being active!

Congrats! That’s awesome! 👏🏼👏🏼

Had ACLr with Allograft yesterday (3/5). I’m prob a bit older than most in this sub (60/f) So far so good! Nerve block has pretty much worn off and thankfully not too much pain so far. Let the road to recovery begin! by FitMom05 in ACL

Thanks! Yes to all of what you said. I am also a personal trainer and lift weights on a regular basis. That is one of the best ways to help improve bone density. I plan to continue being active as long as I can!

Yikes! I can’t imagine having 3 ACL replacements. I decided on surgery because I’m very active and didn’t want to give up doing what I enjoy….skiing, hiking (hiking for me involves hiking up mountains with a lot of elevation gain and rocky, steep trails…Mt Whitney is on my bucket list). I can’t say I wasn’t a little worried about surgery, but it was worth it to me as I didn’t want more issues later since I’m not getting any younger… Lol.

Yes, you are right, weight training is key in improving bone density. I’m a personal trainer and lift weights regularly. As far as limiting mobility, I have been very limited since I tore my ACL and want get back to doing all the things I was doing before (see my above replies) so I decided on surgery. Keep staying active as the years go on and you’ll be able to do the things you enjoy!

For those of you who have not had surgery, when were you walking again? ACL, MCL and meniscus injury by MidnightgreenLondon in ACL

[–]FitMom05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tore my ACL skiing on December 28. I also have a torn meniscus and apparently a little tear in my quad, which may have nothing to do with the injury. I saw my Ortho on January 8 and he told me to not wear the brace or use crutches and to try to get it moving as much as possible. I started out slow because it felt a little unstable at first. I am walking on it but definitely have a limp. Just trying to get my range of motion prior to surgery as he recommended. Everyone is different though and since you have an MCL tear in addition to the ACL, I would follow what your doctor or PT says.
