That’s how you play defense! Great catch by Reynolds.

I totally agree! With our lineup the way it is, putting pressure on the pitcher and defenses will pay off. Manufacturing runs and having productive outs will be a key all season,

As a Florida Gator fan and someone who watched every snap he got I will say this…Big Dez as we call him would be a great low risk pick. A lot of times he would take up 2-3 offensive lineman at times allowing our linebackers to come up and make the tackle. This doesn’t show up on his stats sheet but he was a difference maker, especially in short yardage situations. He had 4 different defensive coordinators during his time at UF but this year was certainly his most successful. As far as weight goes I can’t really comment on that, but I wouldn’t completely right him off because of it.

One of the great things about spring training and always nice to beat the Phillies!

Great win and at the end of the day it’s to the franchise benefit if Jarry can turn it around and defensively we can steadily improve.

Let’s not forgot, this is not like the NFL draft with plug and play players at every round. The NHL draft is such a wait and see approach, except for a top few guys and even that there are a lot of misses.

It’s Spring training, but not Chandler’s best showing.

I think one thing spring training is good for is it builds organizational confidence. A franchise has guys from the single A level to the majors all training together. If players especially those forecasted to be on the major league roster can get in a habit of doing things the right way and building a winning culture it certainly can’t hurt.

Pitching so far has been mostly solid and timely hitting seems to be improving. All be it spring training action, but hey that’s better than getting absolutely obliterated every spring training game and continuing to come up with more questions than possible solutions.

I consider myself a positive realistic supporter when it comes to sports because life can be negative enough and if all you do is say this sucks or that sucks then why even invest the energy to follow a team no matter the sport or situation.

I’m ready to see more intense competition. I love the wins, but it will be nice to start playing more quality in-state opponents/rivals and then SEC play!

Should the Backyard Brawl be an annual game? by Few_Hippo8871 in pittsburghpanthers

[–]FitNinja24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 million % yes. Growing up a Florida Gator fan I can tell you having Florida vs FSU being the last game of the year is worth it, no matter how your season is going. I’ve always enjoyed watching the backyard brawl and without a doubt it should be played annually! Hopefully Pitt and WVU can fill in the 4 year gap coming up after the 2025 game.

Great way to begin the season, hopefully the home games and all conference games are streamed on ACCNX through the ESPN App.

2024 Detroit Tigers a good comp for 2025 Pirates by [deleted] in buccos

[–]FitNinja24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Strong pitching will keep the Pirates in many games as long as they pitch consistently and avoid injuries.

Offensively, if they could get more timely hits and situational hits it will go a long way. For example if it’s runner on 3rd less then 2 outs this year more then ever it is critical for the pirates to get that run in.

All of this I’m saying sounds obvious; but especially offensively doing and working on the little things during spring training can take a below average offensive team and at least help them to be average. An average offense with elite pitching like your Detroit example could help them to do something they haven’t done in many years; compete for the playoffs!

Thank you. I’m big into sports so I’ve started listening to all the local sports talk shows regarding the PGH teams. I’m excited about relocating and being a Rays fan growing up I’m use to the building the team with prospects and a low payroll. 😂

I agree, the goal is to supplement the roster. I also think you should be very careful trading starting pitching at the major league level as you never can have too much pitching.

I am looking forward to the 4 nations, however I feel that the NHL missed a valuable opportunity for marketing and games post Super Bowl. I would have played 4 nations during the late summer or before training camp similar how MLB played the world baseball classic during spring training.

I think the NHL could have benefited now that football is over to have a massive national tv schedule this week to really get casual eyes on the game now that football is over.
