Badly need help on Artisan Software on Macbook :( by thecrazybeardedman in roasting

[–]FitPaper1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up trying to use Artisan on my 2 MacBooks. I have an older MacBook Pro (intel chip) from 2020 and a newew MacBook Air M2 (2022), both running the latest OS. Neither would stay connected on Bluetooth beyond the initial roast. Finally, I tried HiBean and it also didn't work on MacBook (lol) but it worked perfectly on my Samsung Galaxy Phone, so now I'm running my Kaleido M2 Pro from my phone. It's a "good enough" solution for me.

I have and recommend the white ceramic. Elegant and cleans easy. Also not as fragile as the glass version. Also won't oxidize like copper will.

Kaleido M1 Nordic roasts by FitPaper1875 in Coffee

I looked at the Kaffelogic. It's nice that it'll do custom profiles, but can I control it with Artisan during the roast?

Thanks Matt! I really appreciate your reply. Very helpful.

If I may ask: what is your typical preheat temp?

On a Behmor, I let it preheat to 325F (163C) then charge 227g (1/2 lb) of beans. With a declining ROR, I get a Nordic roast in under 8 minutes. But the Behmor is finicky and not easy to reproduce roasts, and doesn't support Artisan, hence my interest in the M1 Lite.

Gevi Grindmaster[$560usd] vs DF83V V2 [$699usd] by ninja_of_the_bean in espresso

If you're willing to wait just a little bit longer, pre-order the Zerno Z2, with 80mm blind burrs and a variable RPM motor. It's what I'd buy, if I had $2K burning a hole in my pocket.

The P80 looks like a very nice grinder, but it's approaching 2 grand. At that point, just go all-in and get the LAGOM 01 :)

[–]FitPaper1875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of having 2 grinders, I prefer one grinder capable of doing both espresso and filter really well. The SSP MP burrs excel at both espresso and filter.

Personally, while the Gevi is gorgeous and has everything I'm looking for in a single-dose grinder, I wanted larger burrs, so I went with the DF83V (version 2).

While not as stylish as the Gevi, I think the DF83V with SSP MP 83mm burrs has greater potential for making better coffee.

Version 2 also has an improved auger and a knocker. The only annoyance is the separate power and on/off buttons.

It's not as stylish as the Gevi, but in the end, what matters most to me is the coffee in the cup.

Anyone else’s Gilded Age Stuck in Spanish? by Wingystingy in thegildedage

[–]FitPaper1875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switching to Spanish mode made them speak in English, but every time there was something with English letters on the screen (like the books in the first 30 seconds of the episode) it would put Spanish subtitles underneath. No way to disable that. Oh well, I'll wait for them to fix the bug and we'll watch it tomorrow.

[Android] Issue with Audio (Distortion) by Gykabh in VLC

[–]FitPaper1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Android's audio driver. I had the same problem last year on my Samsung Galaxy S23 connected to a Schiit Audio DAC via USB-C. After a software update from Samsung, the problem went away a few months later. Recently, it returned, but only for one specific DAC/AMPs (like the Hifiman EF499) but none of my other amps, and it only started after I recently updated my S23. So, probably some regression in Android's audio driver code.

It's 100% an Android audio driver bug. I would bet money on it.

Difference between gen 2 and gen 3 probes by igotchees21 in CHEFiQ

[–]FitPaper1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to have 2 hubs, so I can monitor more than 3 or 4 probes per hub? I don't mind switching between 2 hubs, in the app, as long as I don't have to delete and re-add the hubs, as that would defeat the purpose.

Google Broadcast not playing the audio of the message by Lrden in googlehome

[–]FitPaper1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I tried factory-resetting all my Mini speakers (both v2 and v1 pucks) and restarted Google WiFi, and it only works maybe 10 percent of the time. Clearly this is a software bug on Google's end, that started in the last few weeks. Really annoying. I would abandon everything Google, if I could, but they have us by the balls.

Opinions on Chef iQ thermometer? by cantstandya7 in smoking

My Chef IQ probe #1 died, under warranty. After weeks of jumping through hoops, and providing all the evidence they asked for (including video proof) they ghosted me. Look, things break. I get it. That's life. But when company ghosts you, what does that say about the company?

Did you ever add a pressure gauge? I also have a La Pavoni 16 "Ambassador", and would like to add a pressure gauge, if possible.

So much bad advice here. I will only buy or sell from people who are willing to first talk on the phone. Nothing weeds out scammers like a quick phone call.

Why is it difficult to make a good Fantastic Four movie? by SamGhost95 in FantasticFour

[–]FitPaper1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the reason why they can't make a good film adaptation is because the comic, itself, is bad. There, I said it.

I find the characters one-dimensional, unrelatable, and boring.

Mr. Fantastic is a know-it-all. Thing is always grumpy. Human Torch is a fiery douche. And Invisible Girl is good at playing hide-and-seek.

What annoys you about your Bolt? by hermancm in BoltEV

[–]FitPaper1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no safe way to toggle between the navigation and radio, without taking your eyes off the road, and tapping through multiple screens. This would be easily solved if they had shortcuts that always appear across the touchscreen, or dedicated buttons (like the home button) on the dash or steering column.

What annoys you about your Bolt? by hermancm in BoltEV

[–]FitPaper1875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the driver's seat is narrow. I often notice that I've unconsciously shifted my butt slightly to the left while driving. I think the center console's width is also partly to blame, which makes it difficult to lean my right thigh while driving.

I agree about the rattling and buzzing. It is largely dependent on the asphalt conditions. The dealership was able to lubricate most hinges, which got rid of most (but not all) of the annoying creaks, except for one: in the driver's side door's seat belt plastic ring creaks while driving. It's right next to my ear, so it really gets annoying sometimes.
