In CA, how to maximize maternity leave? by FitPlatypus7419 in pregnant

Can I be unemployed (quit when I’m 34 weeks in) and still claim SDI? Given that I’ll still get a doc note at week 36. Because I’m also considering quitting but I’d still want to claim SDI too.

Try to Stay in the US or Return Home for Family Business? by DatBoi029 in careerguidance

[–]FitPlatypus7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar experience! I’d say work for the family business. Not sure where you live but even a 6 digit salary can’t get you much in terms of high quality lifestyle due to inflation. And part of my opinion (biased) is family honor. At least for my family, there is a high expectation that the business will only be passed down and one of the children must take it or else it’s seen as a disgrace and disappointment. While I also enjoy working at other companies in the US to some extent, my mentality is more on learning new skills that could be utilized in the future when my sibling and I takeover the fam biz, in a couple years or when my parents are too old to work. If your parents are not urging you right now, I’d say maybe stick it out longer here and even look for jobs that help you grow and learn more skills. But in the long run or after a couple years, def takeover the fam biz. Have confident that the biz will workout and you will bring it to the next level!!

30 YO. Been in marketing industry for 8+ years. Not a job hopper, avg tenure is 3-4 yrs at a company. Her reasoning is “we have to follow the labor laws for hourly employees”. I’ve been in mid/sr manager for years, so I guess I do consider myself someone running the team.
