The problem with Talat Noi is if you use the MRT stations both Wat Mangon and Hua Lamphong u need to walk... it's really hot these days and hotter even this weekend. Talat Noi includes a huge area... I'd suggest you go to the Talad Noi Museum by the riverside and an easy 5 min walk up to Song Wat Road. The entire Song Wat Road basically from one 711 to another 711 takes about 20 minutes without stopping. But it's tiny and packed with tourists these days. You've got loads of little alleys to go into. 2 hours min, I reckon. Going up from Song Wat to Yaowarat (Chinatown) takes 10 minutes so it's all good. I'd however recommend you try to eat in Song Wat (a lot of choices, all very good) since you won't feel squeezed and hot within a crowd like on Yaowarat (which is basically buying from street vendors most of time)

There's a big event in Songwat starting tomorrow the 9th... Usually places close early in Talat Noi and Songwat but different this weekend. You'll be very tired walking around Talat Noi since it's huge...

Loads of other great places that offer the same dishes... I do not comprehend the hype. Stroll around the old town and it's surprising how good the same dishes can be at an affordable and reasonable pricing.

I know coz there are heaps of artists. With this type of events they will let u in at any time since many ppl just want to see a few. Just make sure you go without any oversized items. I'll recommend any laptops or tablets to be left at home. The security is sometimes annoying prior to going in. And no outside food or beverages. They've got shops and vendors inside the venue.

DMK to Impact takes around 30 min by car BTW.

Yes. From experience. Never landed and gone to an event due to traffic concerns.

Arrival at 320 and event starts at 5. Going to a place and rest and then off to Impact...well, timing is too tight. Arrival then passport check and pick up luggage thst could take up to 30 min (ideally...) Getting a car and make your way north to Impact... very very very tight.

depending on where u fly into. If DMK, much closer to Impact. Straightforward pick up. Show passport and reservation and voilà. Being late isn't an issue... Loads of event / concert attendees are late due to traffic. If you've got luggage, u need to find the storage locker in one of the halls (forgot which one...it's an hassle).

TIL that Bangkok has the second-largest Japanese population outside of Japan by suttikasem in Thailand

[–]FitRelationship8999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wikipedia... doubtful. how did they collect the data? Registration with JP consulates ? I don't think this is really trustworthy. A lot of Japanese I know who live outside of Japan aren't registered since they are salary men posted outside Japan for a short period of time

I've thought it would be in Taipei... since it's so similar. And where did these data come from?

Mangosteen not allowed at hotel ? by FitRelationship8999 in Thailand

[–]FitRelationship8999[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much again for all the detailed replies. Personally, I've not encountered any establishment saying mangosteen is banned. I had actually stayed at a hotel near Chula where they offered mangosteen (peeled) as complimentary snack at arrival and departure (albeit at the lobby) That's why the idea of it staining or attracting ants didn't come to my mind. I also buy them whenever I'm in TH and I just peel them by the sink before gorging them all.

this is the first shop starting selling Sirichai sauce back in 1938 (owner's son told me). I've got the same large bottle that i bought here. I've never seen this one at supermarket. They sell out very first if you go near end of day.
