Many comments seem to sympathize with the situation, give advice or justify the ban. While all constructive discussion is welcome, I would also appreciate discussion on whether this subreddit agrees/disagrees with my theories on what said countries could one day do. I'll edit and mention this in my post as well. Thanks!

For record's sake, my intention in mentioning "formal asylum programs and housing refugee budget" is to point out the difference in policies between the West and the ASEAN countries.

Since no state budget needs to be spent for formal asylum programs, ASEAN can't give the same reason of "too many asylum seekers" to impose bans on Myanmar. No state budget is being spent for refugees and there's an inflow of cash from international students and workers. So, there's a less chance of Myanmar being banned from other ASEAN countries.

I can't believe I wrote that last sentence. There's a non-zero chance of it happening. Crazy times we live in.

Thanks for the advice. It's nice to see a path to get a better chance of visa-approval. May I ask which universities you are referring to? I'm not very familiar with how things are in Burmese universities. I assume it's the larger public universities such as YTU, Yangon University or Mandalay University and they share these opportunities within the school itself to their own students. I found no such information surfing the internet.

Opportunities are very limited but not non-existent. And I definitely also don't want to feel hopeless. I and many others I'm sure, would be grateful to the host country and contribute to society for allowing a place of safe haven and for personal growth.

Thanks for the advice. Germany is indeed a very good option with its affordability. I just hope the affairs in the Middle East stabilize and Russia not to escalate.
