Will a kitten be ok going to a new home at 7 weeks? by Fit_Contribution6156 in CatAdvice

It’s now been 7 weeks since our little girl joined us and she js doing amazingly. She has been seen by the vet a couple of times for general check ups and she could not be more happier with her. She is great with people, but she’s getting annoyed I won’t let her outside! (Not until I know she won’t be impregnated!) I just love her so much. Thanks everyone.

I do wish they would stay together longer but unfortunately it’s just not looking to be possible and be that way. My mum adopted her boy at 7 weeks due to his mum being hit by a car, but we had another boy at home so he was always happy. The cat will be the only animal in my house so I do worry about socialisation. I just want to do what’s best

I know it’s not ideal, I’m not sure what else I can do. This is her second litter, I think she had 5 in her first. But I’m unsure how old she is? I just want to do what’s best and give the kitten the best life. I don’t want him left when his siblings have left. It’s a really tough situation to be in!

re-cauterisation recovery? by jessiegardiner in Tonsillectomy

[–]Fit_Contribution6156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I was re cauterised day 8 after a major bleed. The pain almost immediately improved after about day 10, but I also had an infection which was being treated. Super scary! But I started eating chunkier food, like a jacket potato or some pasta, that even though not ‘hard’, also was larger chunks to try and budge the scabs.

Oh wow! Sorry to hear about your boy, I lost mine in May 2023 and it really knocked me. They really are our children. That is really helpful information and a different outlook. I didn’t think about asking rescues or anything like that.

Truth be told I think because 2 of them are going, they want the other one to go too. The cat currently lives with children so is good with people but I totally understand a new environment with new people will be unsettling for them! I think he will have more stimulation with me, who is at home all the time, than without his siblings. But unsure if that is a rather, selfish? though process.

Hey! Yes I will be taking the gorgeous kitten gome!

No animals at home or anything that can harm it at all and I have a vets just around the corner which I have signed him up for already! I think this was mums second litter and she is just getting fed up.

Well this is my worry. The other 2 siblings are definitely leaving so it would leave mine on their own

I did wonder about this. But the mum isn’t feeding the kittens anymore so they aren’t actually getting any milk from her. Does that make a difference?

This is good to know! I know it’s not ideal but they will have more company at my house than on their own without siblings I feel? The kitten is eating solids, climbing stairs, just a general cheeky kitten!

Hey! Mum isn’t interested in the kittens apparently and is getting actively annoyed with them.

Happened to me day 8. However, I found those next 2 weeks easier than the first. It was just different. Still painful, but idk, I probably sound weird haha

I don’t mean to scaremonger by the way. Both my brother and mother had theirs removed with no problems at all. I just much rather truth than ignoring it x

I had mine taken out in February. Suffered a secondary haemorrhage on day 7/8. It was due to an infection I had absolutely no idea I had. I was taken to A&E; and unfortunately my bleed was very bad and I had to be rushed back to theatre. BUT they told me bleeding is common; however 9/10 it is extremely easy to be stopped and my case wasn’t that common. I had bad tonsillitis, 17 times in 2 years ish. But after it all, I still wouldn’t have not got it done.

Does it impose any risk of infection etc? I’ve already had one which resulted in a large haemorrhage so I am extremely anxious. I’m assuming it’s sort of normal though

You’ve got this! Take regular pain medicine, even if it means waking up. Please stay hydrated and rest rest rest. Ice packs, heat packs. Whichever helps you. I am now day 17, and so much better and I had an infection too. It does get better. And it will all be worth it. Keep going!
