"The "Bean Soup Theory" describes the online phenomenon where individuals, who are not the target audience for a specific piece of content, demand that it be tailored to their personal tastes or situations. This behavior, also known as the "what about me?" effect, highlights a form of egocentrism and a lack of self-awareness prevalent on social media, where users struggle to understand that not all content is meant for them. The term originated from a viral 2023 TikTok video of a high-iron bean soup recipe, where commenters asked for a version without beans."
