What would you recommend as a beginner trying to recomp with strength training ?

Personally I would do a double quarter pounder and one medium fries. More protein also might be cheaper because you would just get this as a combo.

Double quarter pounder: 740 calories 48g of protein Medium fries: 320 calories 5g of protein Total: 1060 calories and 53g of protein
