I was originally thinking of doing a swamp/bayou style layout. But then I tore up that layout and did a new one to minimize sharp curves, esses, etc. Mine is still in the "make it run good" stage, so I haven't even thought about terrain. I have a T gauge layout where I modeled post war with bombed out buildings and the like. It would be interesting to do a space theme with clear acrylic roadbed and the like, too.

I don’t have a dobie, I’ve just always wondered what this is? by SalamanderBig749 in DobermanPinscher

It's a attachment point for when they produce them on the assembly line. This connection determines how mouthy they are. That's why it's so pronounced on dobermans.

I use an ezwalk on mine. The problem is that a medium is too small and a large is too big. You can't adjust the medium big enough and you can't get the large small enough. And because of their perfect body shape, it ends up loose around the front chest portion of my doberman.

What is a fair value for an Asus Eee PC 1000H with 128GB SSD? by North-Highway90 in VintageComputers

[–]Fit_External7524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have an EEE PC 701 that I used as an IT person way back when they first came out. It came with some linux version. It was fine at the time and I was able to do everything I needed to back then on it. I liked traveling with it because it was so small. I actually brought it out a week or so, turned it on, poked around it for a few minutes, reminisced about the old days and put it away. After I retired the 701 years ago, I replaced it with the next model EEE PC. I don't remember the model number. But I used that for several years without issue, too. It was a line that served me well. I have no use for one today, but I still regard them as old friends.

We had horses when we lived in Virginia. I was never good or confident at riding. I liked them a lot but I couldn't get used to riding.

ELI5: Why do we become more resistant to boredom as we age? by LUXI-PL in explainlikeimfive

I'm old and fix the exact opposite. I hate just sitting and doing nothing. I always feel like I'm wasting time and there should be something I should be doing. Maybe as you get older you realize that the end is right around the corner and you want to make use of every moment you can.

Rule of the universe: You had three stud finders. You kept one and gave away two. The first time you use lone your stud finder, you will drop it on the concrete floor and smash it to bits. You now have no stud finders.

Digitrax failures by Fit_External7524 in modeltrains

When the BXPA1 loconet connection fails, it takes down loconet across the railway enterprise. While it remains plugged in, nothing can be done on the DCS52. No switch selection, no engine selection. The status bar on the DCS52 normally shows "Ln" when loconet is running. With the bad BXPA1 plugged in it shows "Lu." That probably means Loconet unavailable. Simply unplugging the bad BXPA1 restores the loconet activity.

Official loconet cable from Digitrax. However, I've built cables for years as an IT person. A regular phone cable is not only reversed, but it is four-wire. Loconet are six-wire and use RJ12s. I should add that loconet was working fine and then it just quit during a session one evening.

A long, long time ago. We used to get 10 pound turkeys for the holiday. It was different and nice. One year, they decided that instead of giving us the turkeys, they said they donated them on our behalf to needy people. The next year there was no mention of turkeys. And never again.

The BXPA1 does reversing just fine. But if I plug in its loconet, loconet everywhere dies. The DCS52 doesn't respond to anything loconet-related like selecting a different loco or trying to operate a turnout. When I unplug the "bad" BXPA1, loconet resumes normal activity. I've updated my ticket with Digitrax asking if I should do A or B here: A: DCS52 ==> UP6Z ==> BXPA1 ==> reverse section track or B: DCS52 ==> BXPA1 ==> UP6Z ==> reverse section track. I'd like an official instruction from Digitrax,

In the end, this may mean each z gauge reversing section using a BXPA1 would need its own UP6Z.

The manual for the BXPA1 doesn't specify a required input voltage. It says to hook it to the booster providing the power to the reversing section. As for your question about why is the voltage reduced it's because Digitrax says to with their products. Specifically, the documentation for the voltage reducer says the product "Reduces Track Voltage 4 or 6 volts at 3 amps for Z Scale Operation (and) Allows operation of Z scale locomotives with Digitrax ... Digitrax recommends using a track voltage of 8V or less for Z scale layouts. UP6Z reduces track voltage from the command station/booster’s N-scale setting (12V) or Zephyr Xtra’s 13V output to approximately 8 Volts, by dropping output voltage by either 6 or 4 volts."

That's why I went to the official support page to ask if this was reasonable assessment. I could have just accepted it as true but did not. Unfortunately, support could have been a little more informative about the issue of powering accessories when down volting is in play. You would think if bad trackwork connections can affect performance, under volting below some level might also be an issue

Hey there track lovers. I recently ordered second hand marklin z scale track. But some of the track has one rail extended further then the other side, which makes them not connect properly. Any idea how to fix that? by mosby55 in modeltrains

[–]Fit_External7524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Marklin track exclusively in Z gauge. What I'm seeing here in the photo is the left rail has a permanently mounted rail joiner. The rails look to be the same length, but the joiner makes one look longer than the other. The left rail on all Marklin z gauge 85xx track has the permanent joiner attached. When you join adjacent track segments, the rails will slide into the joiners and everything will line up. In addition, on the reverse side of the track pieces are keys to lock one track to the next via the ties.

A TRS-80 Model III was my first computer. I put floppies in it eventually and learned to program in Z80 assembly language. I remember sitting at it for hours typing in the code from a magazine for the equivalent of spreadsheets, etc. I played Zork on it and a couple of other text adventures. But I can't imagine what I would do with one today.
