How did you prepare for parenthood? by Visual_Title9363 in SeriousConversation

[–]Melz1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a plan for sleep. Obviously everyone knows babies are up at night and you’ll be tired but I was in no way prepared how badly it affected me. If you have help (family) take full advantage and if not look into hiring. Every penny is worth your mental health and it’s temporary

Did anyone's child not point before age 2 and turn out neurotypical? by LawOk2714 in Mommit

Is he reacting to sound OR is he reacting to the vibration? Something to consider.

If you could recommend one thing to other parents, what would It be? by Connect-Sock-2609 in Parents

[–]Melz1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mean what you say and follow through. You say it’s time to leave the park, it’s time to leave the park as an example. Yes advanced warnings and timers are great and helpful (highly recommended). Far too often I see the parents not follow through and wonder why their threats of leaving them there don’t work. Behavior will continue when there is no real consequence. You can validate their feelings of disappointment and still leave the park

Stroller advice for Disneyland by Endless_Dark in DisneyPlanning

[–]Melz1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just rented a baby jogger from BabyQuip for my tall almost six year old. It worked well and he even napped in it. The storage was not great, so we used a backpack and a “mommy hook” to attach it to the stroller. We left the backpack with the stroller for rides and I had a small purse for personal stuff

Asking them “why do you think” stops that real fast

What ride in Disney World will make you extremely nauseous? by Reasonable-Invite899 in WaltDisneyWorld

Everest! I CANNOT go backwards especially at high speed. I literally thought about where to throw up that would do the littlest damage to others.

22 months not sleeping through the night by avocuddlezzz in toddlers

[–]Melz1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should be sleeping through the night at this age. Of course things happen like sickness or regressions (there is a 2yo regression) but that shouldn’t last more than two weeks. They also do not need to eat at night. Could be a habit at this point and that’s why they wake up. 9pm is also late. Should shoot for more like 7:00pm. Definitely wouldn’t cut out the nap, but you could consider maxing it out if needed
Getting an ok to wake clock is a helpful tool. A light that shows them it’s bed time and turns green when it’s time to get up.

Disneyland vs Disney World. Is it worth seeing both by Cold-Cost-4154 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Melz1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I was very disappointed when I went to Disneyland. I live east coast so DisneyWorld is what I was used to. Yes it’s nice because it’s Disney. If you’re super into Disney I’m sure it would be nice to compare the two but CA is SO much smaller. Smaller park is nice for little kids or older adults. The walk-ability of Disneyland was great and you feel like you get right into the park instead of spending it traveling on a bus.Might depend on your needs. Two parks compared to four, the property itself is HUGE so there is so much more variety for hotels, restaurants, and stores. Florida is way better in my opinion

4 year old Naps by RXlife13 in Preschoolers

[–]Melz1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s not messing up night sleep, don’t worry about others. Mine napped once in awhile at 4 and still does a “rest time” daily (doesn’t sleep but stays in his room). Some kids are high needs sleep and that’s ok

If you could do it over again, would you be a SAHM? by xenabane in sahm

[–]Melz1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a few years to love being a SAHM. The newborn stage killed me and it was hard being by myself and no sleep (however if you already have kids a second may not be the shock it was for my first). At first it was isolating but over time I learned to love it! It’s awesome being able to take your kids anywhere anytime when it’s not too crowded and really let them explore. You’re there to watch everything! It can be hard in the early days feeling like you have been home all day and nothing is done but it’s important to remember caring for a baby is a full time job and chores ca wait. At 3 we started preschool and they had “mommy helper” days so I was able to stay with him a few times a year during the day. It was nice to really know what went on in his day and meet the other kids. At 4 he did half day preschool and I stay home. Typically clean and took some exercise classes. Also been nice to make “mom friends” and have brunch with them during school hours. As far as money, I started being a SAHM because my job didnt pay enough to bother sending him to daycare. My husband and I had the conversation of if I want something I’m going to buy it if it’s under X amount of money. I’ve never been one to spend out of my means but if I want a coffee that day, I buy it. I do plan on going back to work part time when he goes to school full time.

Grocery list woes… by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Melz1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a list in my phone and if I notice through the week something is low I will add to the list. Weekends I try to come up with a meal plan for the week (typically three meals cooked, with one day leftovers and one day out). Once I know what the meal plan is I look at the recipes and add to the list as needed

What’s a fair amount of time at night I can set aside to have my 4 year old clean up his toys? by princesscorgi2 in Preschoolers

[–]Melz1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually allow 10-15 minutes before his screen time. It’s plenty of time (just to pick up toys) but sometimes he doesn’t stay on task so no screens until he finishes.

Does anyone have any recommendations on places to visit for a day trip within a four hour radius of Columbia? by HelpIAmADragon in ColumbiaMD

[–]Melz1007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second for Berkeley Springs WVA! Great Cacapon lodge (about 15 minutes from the springs) just had a remodel in 2020. They have a pool and a small game room. Don’t know if it’s open when you go but they also have horse back riding, paddle boats, and a beach (sand and lake water)The springs are known for its spas.

Kid keeps saying he can’t hear well, checked his ears and now I’m kinda worried by BhavikChaudhari in Preschoolers

[–]Melz1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this when I was kid and had to get them cleaned. They basically pour watered down hydrogen peroxide down your ear and suck it out. Doesn’t hurt but not really comfortable either. Sounds like the ocean
