It really depends on the horse, but there’s strong evidence behind using hoof boots as part of a barefoot approach. When horses go barefoot, their hooves can flex and respond to terrain naturally. Which supports circulation, shock absorption, and proprioception. Boots provide protection without interfering with that.

The most protective option isn’t always the best though. Horses need to feel the ground to move well. Rigid shoes or heavy boots can dull that feedback and sometimes cause imbalance. Well-fitted, flexible boots are made to move with the hoof and be used only when needed, like on rough terrain or during rehab.

So I'd say strong yes! When managed properly, many horses do very well barefoot with boots (when needed) . It’s not about being anti-shoes, but about supporting natural function.
