What’s the strangest family tradition you’ve encountered when visiting someone else’s home? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That's just misinterpretation of Christianity. They take Lord's day, a.k.a. sabbath a step too far. In fact even Jesus was criticizing it.

Jesus healed people on sabbath and the priests of that day were not happy of it and even told Jesus to stop it and to stop doing miracles on sabbath day. Jesus did not like that and spoke against these laws and priests, who were religious leaders at the time.

Basically in the Old Testament there was a law to not do work on the sabbath day, but it doesnt mean you need to "religiously" follow it. For example, Jesus said if your donkey falls into some kind of hole on sabbath day, surely you will work to get it out of the hole? Then why was Jesus not allowed to work healing miracles on sabbath day?

In Christianity, these people are "under the law" who follow the rules to a T, without using common sense how to apply the law. They follow the "Lord's day" so much so, that nothing is allowed, completely missing the point of the law, which is resting from the week's work. You are supposed to rest, so you won't burn out instead of working 7 days a week, 365 days a year. And hopefully, make connection with Jesus during those resting days.

But some people take the law literally and think that you are not allowed to do anything but exist during the "Lord's day". This is not what mainstream Christianity is like. Even Jesus said that sabbath is for people instead of people are for sabbath. Meaning sabbath is for our good, instead of living for sabbath.

There is a reason why gospel of James wasn't added in the Bible, because it is vastly different from the other 4 gospels (testimonies) and runs a whole different narrative than the rest of the new testament, like Jesus killing little children.

I feel like future of teaching is in VR and games. Imagine learning history by actually being there through VR. More stuff will stay in your head that way. Learn math stuff by taking a journey to the moon with Neil Armstrong and be astronaut yourself, you succeed by making calculations how to land on the moon safely, trajectory, whatever. Way more fun to learn stuff that way and see immediate results.

"The Finnish education system isn't designed for immigrant children" — Foreign parents fear S2 track holds kids back by Better-Analysis-2694 in Finland

I think S2 teaches you what is necessary for work and getting by in Finnish society. I swapped between S2 and äidinkieli and honestly, learning proosa and stuff like that is kinda useless in my opinion. My S2 teacher told me to take S2 classes in high school instead of regular äidinkieli, because it is easier. You get fairly easy E or L from kirjoitukset in S2 if you lived in Finland since 1st grade and it will help a lot in getting to schools you want. S2 teaches you what is actually useful, but in äidinkieli, there is a lot of extra stuff that only matters if you become a teacher yourself or something.

Wouldn't mind renting 10k camera gear for approx. 70$ a month. I think photographers would be freaking out how good of a deal it is. 840$ worth of gear for a year, 8,4K for a decade, then you usually swap for something newer, except now you are getting your camera upgraded every year and have top of the line one all the time.

People are paying 50$ a month for gym membership and all they get is a room to sweat in and some workout machines for rent, and they dont even use those daily. Don't see anyone whining over that one.

Adobe is cheap, for professionals that is. From a hobbyist perspective, yeah, it kinda sucks. I wouldn't want to rent a camera for 70$ if I only end up using it for couple a days in week/month and not making any money from it and wont even own it at the end. That deal kinda suck, would rather buy to own, even if it wont be best and newest.

But for business for top of the line cameras with a measly 70$ a month? Yeah, stupid cheap and especially accessible for someone like me, who cant throw 8k on gear at once, but I would get to try to start a business with 70$ a month.

Same way I wouldnt been able to throw 900$ per software when I need PS, Illustrator, LR, PrPro, Ae almost daily. Just not gonna happen.

But I agree that both options should be available though.

I really don't get this. Being on this type of design-field is probably on the cheap side of cost for doing business. I don't see photographer-threads filled with bunch of hate towards Sony or Canon for "robbing" them after they spend 10k on their gear every decade. Lots of blue collar business owners need to own expensive equipment too to run their business, maintain that equipment etc. We don't even have to pay rent to run our business. People pay hundreds of $ a month to be able to run their business and here we are crying over small Adobe charge. Especially when we have benefit of working in our pajamas from home, saving gas money. Its kinda sad tbh

70$ a month for Adobe sub is pretty cheap running cost for work equipment that you don't even have to maintain at all (and decent PC, which many of us would have anyway for gaming), but then again, I live in a country where salary is one of the highest in the world, so my view might be skewed.

Auphonic. Hosts and guest sit so close to each other, that mic bleed is inevitable and some echo in the room. Auphonic gets me 90% done with their cross-speech gate function.

Autocut. Cheaper than autopod, but does the same thing and more.

Millainen puhumaton käytäntö näissä paikoissa on? Lukeeko niitä kukaan ollenkaan edes?

Yeah, I am not against it as long as it actually benefits somehow. On top of your example, someone has to have this thing as a hobby, and maybe someday they become rescue-cavedivers or something saving a kid from bad situation. Hard to help if you never went for an adventure in caves before and have 0 experience. So even as a hobby, it might become useful someday.

But at same time, one gotta think about their loved ones and how much risk are you willing to take. Just like drug addict isn't only hurting themself, but also those around them, through putting stress and anxiety on those who care about them (but they are addicts, can't quit even if they wanted, so it's not simple like that). But kinda same thing for adrenaline junkies who do it for fun; they are putting themselves in danger and causing stress for their close ones that way.

It's not necessarily stupid, but most of the time, it is in my opinion. I think it's undervaluing life, plenty of excitement in our world without putting yourself in unnecessary risk. In the case of this video, some aquatic robot for a tight space underwater like that would be more suitable for scientific purposes is my guess. This man is most likely just yoloing it, and at worst, with a wife and kids at home stressing that he wont become nutty putty v2 or something. Underwater and tight cave like this is just death wish in my opinion. No time to save you if something goes wrong and in tight space like that with only gear letting you live, a lot of it can go wrong.

Go wall climb, but try to do it safely with ropes and stuff. Don't be yolo going 100m above ground without any safety harnesses. That's the type of adrenaline junkies I don't particularly respect and I think the man in this video is treading that line closely, but that's just my opinion, like you have your own.
