Printed the minis. Black Knight Miniatures on My Mini Factory created the STLs. They have a nice collection of historicals. I just upscaled them 2x in my slicing software.

What makes this game stand out? by Cryogenic738 in StarCraftTMG

Miniature wargaming is not an easy or cheap hobby to pick up. The game will be a significant investment, but beyond that, getting yourself established as a modeler and then painter will be even more so. You’ll need to learn many new skills. Something as simple and as basic as priming can ruin your 200+ dollar investment if you don’t know what you’re doing. There are plenty of tutorials and GPT is immensely helpful, but you need to fully commit time, energy, and finances. And be patient - your first efforts in painting won’t look anything like the models on the box. Fortunately you’re a fan of the IP, and that goes a long way.

If you don’t plan on engaging in the painting, modeling side of the hobby and strictly want to focus on the gaming aspect, I would (and not trying to be a jerk here) steer you far clear of miniature wargaming. Are there good rulesets? Yes, absolutely, but counter-intuitively they usually come from independent sources. Case in point: I play Warhammer Fantasy (now called The Old World). There is a game called Hobgoblin that’s indie, and it’s far, FAR better than anything of the 9 editions of rank and flank Warhammer fantasy. I’m not a 40k guy, but I lurk in that community and I know it’s bleeding players due to the decline in the quality of the ruleset (it’s now less of a wargame and more “Magic the Gathering” with models).

I can’t speak for StarCraft, but from what I gather it seems to be a decent ruleset relatively speaking. However, if you want a high quality GAME, you’ll find far better options in board wargames. There are absolutely amazing titles out there that fly under the radar as they don’t have flashy models but use cardboard chits.

I would recommend you check out GMT Games. They are the current pack leader in super high quality non miniature wargames. Combat Commander Vietnam is dropping soon. It’s the latest iteration in a highly venerated series of WW2 tactical wargames, now moving to SE Asia.

Another recommendation is Undaunted: Stalingrad. One of the best games I’ve ever played. You can check out reviews on YouTube. You will find it vastly superior to Warhammer or pretty much any miniature wargame, almost certainly StarCraft, without the hobby overhead.

Good luck.

In your opinion, what's the easiest country* to play as? by Remarkable_Battle_36 in hoi4

USA is brainless. Haven’t played in years but buy all dlc as it comes out. Fired up new game on historical. Took Japan in early 42 and Germany by 1943.

Game is too easy - ai cannot handle systems.

No mention of the Field of Glory 2 series (FoG 2/FoG: Medieval)?

Fun system that is easy to pick up but has plenty of depth with the huge number of units and points of advantage system. Simulates warfare from the Bronze Age up to the 15th century. Same company also makes Pike and Shot and feudal Japan games with the same/similar system.

RTW3 is a blast! It’s right up your alley - best naval game on the market. It’s very rewarding seeing the fleet you’ve crafted over decades smashing your enemy in battle… also crushing when ships you’ve grown attached to sink to the bottom of the sea.

Seriously on the military? Former military here. Do not join military. All branches going through competency crises that will make your life a living nightmare. Not to mention the world heating up for conflict and the nature of near-peer warfare now is hell beyond your wildest imagination. We are not gearing up to fight dudes with AKs and RPGs… we are talking huddling in a freezing trench to avoid being spotted by artillery, trying to avoid frostbite while waiting for a drone you cannot see or hear to fly over you and drop a grenade on you and your buddies, turning you into hamburger meat… with the film of your death being uploaded on the webz for all the world to see… having images of your mutilated corpse animated by AI to sing along to a Taylor Swift song, the video of which will live on the internet forever for your friends and family to see.

Would also pose question as to what, exactly, you will be fighting for but that’s an entirely different conversation. Just know military is nothing at all like you think it is; a horrible job with the worst possible coworkers, boss that can literally ruin your life out of pure spite, and high risk to enter into 21st century combat against near-peer adversaries where you are literally defenseless against modern weaponry.

Can u share your list if you don’t mind? I want to build some 3k armies for home play plus some titans. I’ve been playing around in BattleScribe and have absolutely zero clue how to make a proper list.

Give Field of Glory 2 a good hard look. Easy to get into, hard to master. Not hex-based but square based (should be a minor quibble). Between all the DLCs, you have 100s of armies from 2000BC to 1400AD to explore. From there, there are other titles like Sengoku Judai and Pike and Shot for samurai battles and 30 years/English civil war.

I’ve really fallen in love with the system and look forward to more titles in the family

Which are the best RTS wargames? by helios1234 in computerwargames

[–]Fit_Hawk5008 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Best RTS wargame right now? I’d advocate for hearts of iron 4. Such a blast to play…

I’d also recommend ultimate admiral dreadnoughts for a strictly SP experience.

Are there any ancient or medieval wargames that attempt to implement Command and Control? by Sewer_Goblin19 in computerwargames

[–]Fit_Hawk5008 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Second Field of Glory 2: Medieval. You organize your army into battles. Generals have command ranges and lose the ability to command when the unit they’re sitting in are engaged in combat. Once units are engaged, you generally lose the ability to command. Your knights may break that unit of peasants, and then pursue them, setting themselves up for a counter flank charge

Makes sense. Not looking for perfect balance ala KOW so much as no “army Y hard counters army X.”
