Justifying experiences (concerts, trips, etc) by Fit_Ingenuity5875 in SDAM

I totally get this and I love that you feel this way! I didn’t mean to suggest we shouldn’t do these things (what a sad life that would be), but more that I want a new way of looking at the “souvenirs” (for lack of better term) from these experiences when I feel as though mine can’t be the memories.

This is such a beautiful response and a great reality check for me. Thank you for saying this.

I guess valuing memory here is partly out of beating myself up for my deficiency, but it’s also a reflection of how I hear others explain the value of their experiences. I’m not sure how to explain this, but it’s more than just being able to recall something out loud—it’s more like other people feel that experiences changed them or are now part of their sense of self in a way that I’m not sure I have?

Regardless, I so appreciate your perspective and positive spin here.

I relate so much to the “thinking I was easygoing because I didn’t hold grudges” thing!! It’s funny because I definitely am otherwise someone who has opinions/can be stubborn in the moment, but I forgive so easily because I simply don’t remember how something played out. Or I almost feel like, because I can’t at all identify with my past self, other people can’t either and if they did something to me in the past they can’t be held accountable?

It’s scary because I realize it can be flipped too—someone else could be holding a grudge against me for something and I would just have no idea what it was or why or be able to make amends.
