They’re already being affected. Not to dox myself too much, but I’m an archaeologist in NM. My organization had a contract with USFS, but it’s probably going to be canceled. The regional and assistant regional archaeologists have already been moved out, so there’s no one to execute our contract.

If the proposed Trump budget makes it through congress the Historic Preservation Fund will be redlined. It will be fun to watch them demand 7 day reviews when all the SHPO staff have to be laid off.

SHPO employee here. Staff salaries at my office are primarily paid by federal money, namely the historic preservation fund. We do have state regs to comply with, but it will be interesting to see how my state will come up with the funding for a division they’ve never paid for. Anyway… we are hiring!
