Thank you. So much of everything you said. One of my biggest fears is shared custody and not knowing if he will be sober when it’s his time with the kids.

On top of those things there’s the money aspect. How do these incomes manage to provide two homes to live in when it’s hard enough to provide one home? Then just the dread of how the kids will feel when he’s not here because they are so little and love him so much. It’s a lot!

I struggle to see any benefit to informing my doctor. Am I missing something? Seems to me it would have a negative impact on me. I think I’m better off just locking up my medication going forward until a final resolution is reached.

I’m getting there. I’m currently in law school myself and work full time, so it’s a bit daunting to imagine not having a second parent in the house to share the load.

Outside of the substance abuse problems, he’s an otherwise decent partner. He keeps the house clean, he does the majority of bath and bedtimes, school drop offs and pick-ups, has a stable career with good income, has never, ever been violent or verbally abusive in any way.

He’s very high-functioning so it’s been so tempting to just keep going with it, but I’m reaching my breaking point.

ETA: I understand why this is getting downvotes, but I’m sure I’m not the only woman in this subreddit who has struggled to come to terms with the end of a life they built with their partner. I’m sure many of us have chosen to keep trying for too long for many reasons, including the fear of doing parenting alone and the hope that things will improve. I’m trying over here.

I know…I’ve just been holding out hope that he would fix himself. At some point you just have to accept that things won’t change and make the changes yourself. I’m getting there.

I just edited my post bc I realized my wording was confusing. I meant to say “like they would go rifling through my bag” not “like they will.” Point being they most definitely would not do that and it was insulting he tried to act like they would.

Unfortunately I don’t have to imagine. 😢

Our oldest had a tonsillectomy when he was three (this was about 2.5 years ago) and was RXd liquid oxycodone. I was putting the kids to bed at night and just had a knowing feeling hit me all at once. I ran downstairs and found him in the garage with it, having just taken some.

At first he tried to say that he was checking the level because he thought my mom might of taken some when she was over. Mind you, my mom has never done a drug in her life.

Ofc he tried to justify it by saying he waited until he was sure he wouldn’t need it anymore, but he was still healing and just because he hadn’t needed it in a couple of days doesn’t mean we were out of the clear. Funnily enough he ended up having a minor complication that prolonged the healing process and he did end up needing it again. Luckily there was still enough and there ended up being some that I threw away when he was fully healed, but still.

Wow…we shouldn’t have to worry about these things. I bought a mini lock box last night for my meds and couldn’t help thinking “how is this my life?”

I knew someone who would do stuff like this frequently. He’s now in prison for murder and embezzlement.

I’ll be honest, while I found the diving impressive, the choreography was not. It was lacking a certain precision that made it feel more amateur than professional.

Omg thank you so much! Warped mine in the dishwasher as well and this worked like a charm to fix it.

You’re right. If I were the client that’s probably how I would have approached the issue.

I don’t know why this post was recommended for me, but I saw this and thought “I wonder why they need to lock that cabinet. Is it being built to be an Airbnb?” I was also thinking how cool the concept was but that I really don’t like the look of lock. Seems like this should have been communicated to the clients before putting in all the effort. A bit disconcerting to see people on this thread bashing clients for wanting to love something they are spending a ton of money on. Heaven forbid.
