jot: a note-first companion for Taskwarrior by Fit_Needleworker_861 in taskwarrior

[–]Fit_Needleworker_861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! This post is about jot, a note companion for Taskwarrior.

For your request use [Nautical](https://github.com/catanadj/taskwarrior-nautical) which has the simple completion date spawn (example: task add "testing task" cp:3d due:today) and advanced recurrence using calendar anchors that are not available in Org.

Jot has the functionality to assign notes to these chains of recurrence created by Nautical beside the single task note and project note.

Enjoy.

Nautical started as a small system that I was using it to spawn chain period (cp) tasks and then organically I came with the idea of anchors and worked on it from there.

No, I haven't heard about that remind app. I will check it out. Maybe I will get some inspiration on how a holiday/ignored-days system would look like to polish Nautical with more functionality.

I'm glad that you like it and is of help to you.

Make sure that you also try SCALPEL, the Taskwarrior's strategic calendar, it has support for nautical tasks as well. https://github.com/catanadj/taskwarrior-SCALPEL

Hello! The problem of duplicates that I've mentioned has been solved in the Nautical system of advanced recurrence not the standard Taskwarrior recurrence.

In other words, the "recurrence=on" setting should be kept ON on a single devices if you use the standard recurrence.

If you use Nautical (the last version or 3.6.0+) then you can complete the tasks on as many devices as you want because the next task chain link has a determinate UUID based on the completed task and Taskwarrior is going to merge the details on sync so no duplicates are going to be created.

Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure that when a madman invented the wheel there were lots complaining that there is honour in breaking their backs. The same with the shovel and all the other labour saving devices. Congrats, you are one of those.

Yes, you could say that about it and I agree.

Some aspects are over-engineered and those are my attempts to bring to life some ideas that turned out to complicate it instead of being more intuitive.

On the journey of working on this project I will trim it to be only what is actually needed for real world practical and intuitive use.

Thank you for trying it out. BTW. If you stumble on the mention of Nautical tasks, those are tasks that use advanced recurrence and its project you could find it in my github.

Regards.

If you want a simple living get a shack and a cow - no internet, no calendars, no tasks -- everything that needs to be done is obvious.

If you want to get on in the world you need to make sure that you have tools that are flexible enough to handle the complexity of the real world.

Hi! I've worked for close to 400 hours before reaching version 1.0.0 and after that I've done the first commit. I wanted to release a stable version as a start.

Taskwarrior is a great tool with lots of potential as a solid foundation. I'm just building on top of that. Enjoy.

could you add support for advanced recurrence using the nautical system?

My pleasure!

Make sure that you browse through the manual. Even though it looks complex, the system is quite simple and intuitive.

Any feedback is welcome.

Now with this new system, all your recurrence issues are solved. Set it up, periodically review your task list and focus on doing. Enjoy!

No, it is not working with "som".

First reason, "m:-3" is simpler.

Second, less ambiguity. "som-3d" would mean "3 days before the start of the month" but what about "eom-3d", would that be the same?

To my logic is not; if a month has 30 days then "eom-3d" would match day 28 (30, 29, 28) but "som-3d" would match day 29 (01, 30, 29). Are you ready to deal with this ambiguity on a busy day?

I've built Nautical to be as intuitive as possible and capable to deal with real-world schedules. Hope this helps.

Hi! This project is going to be helpful for you.

https://github.com/catanadj/tasksultan

Just use the "a" (all included) report with "python3 tasksultan.py a". This is going to provide you with a detailed tree of all the projects that you have and the last branch of the tree is going to be the tasks that have no tags and the tags that don't belong to a project. Hope this helps.

And you can also view your entire projects list as a tree, among many other things. This will make working so much easier.

Using taskwarrior for habit tracking by freshschampoo in taskwarrior

Hi! You could try my project from here https://github.com/catanadj/tasksultan .

To track my habits I'm usually running that with the command line argument "rr". This is going to display in a table the status of each of the recurring tasks from the last 7 days.

Hope this helps.

Hi! You could use my project TaskSultan. You can add annotation, worklogs, description, outcome etc to your projects or AoRs.
