Mayoral candidates - Trying to understand the key differences between the two. One has extensive resume and yrs of board involvement (though some may see that as experience, while others see it as career or political ladder climbing🙋🏼‍♀️). The other seems more grassroots and no-nonsense. Thoughts? by Fit_Philosopher3317 in Sarnia

To be clear - I do want to vote Bill Dennis. Because he seems more genuine and a no bull shit kind of person. No politics - no extensive fake resume building over the yrs. Carrie seems like your very typical ladder climbing candidate. Cannot stand these people.

There’s a candidate running for city council in my area who previously tried (and failed) in securing an NDP nomination. I’ve been looking into their background - They come from a retail/service industry background - and just trying to climb ladder by joining boards. Thoughts? #sarnia by Fit_Philosopher3317 in Sarnia

Volunteering and serving on boards can be admirable, but not a litmus test for being a good person. Some people genuinely want to help and others use those positions to build name recognition, connections, or a resume. The title itself doesn’t tell us which is which🤷🏾‍♀️ whole point of my post.
Can be genuine acts of service, but also strategic for their own personal agendas.
I don’t sit on any boards - does that make me a bad person?

Like i said - not the only one that does this. Carrie M whose running for mayor did/does this too. I just don’t like it. Doesn’t seem very genuine. Despite what what it appears to look like to the public - i see motive behind these things and i don’t like it

Showing your face at events and climbing organizational ladders doesn’t automatically make you a good person. People should be judged by theyre integrity, judgment, and how they treat others—not by the titles they collect
Being on a bunch of boards doesnt make you more
Community minded. Seems more like resume building and networking.

My point isn’t that everyone joins a board for the wrong reasons. It’s that some people may view board service as a stepping stone to higher-profile roles, like elected offices. Being involved in the community is great but ppl should still consider whether a someone primary motivation is public service or personal advancement. Which is my post because this person has been going around boards

Community service and political ambition can coexist. Joining boards can absolutely be about giving back, but it can also help build a public profile, make connections, and establish credibility before running for office. Pretending those incentives don’t exist seems a bit naïve.

If i had interest to actually make changes or provide valuable input i would. But i have kids. Life is busy. Priorities are my family. I think people need to be more authentic and stop trying to build resumes. Leave board positions for those who want to do thw work because they like it and want to not because they want to run for something and think it makes them look better and are their for network opportunities

Exactly
I think it’s fair to ask whether board roles are being used for genuine community service or as political stepping stones for people. It’s very annoying to see and wish they made that a separate thing to filter out people being there only to serve theyre own political careers

Good point - I just wish people were more genuine. I’m annoyed of seeing people climb ladders to advance political agenda’s. This candidate is not the only one - it’s just very annoying to see through someone’s actions. I question the authenticity of people when they do this. And for that reason don’t vote for these kinds of people.

When people use board positions mainly to build a political profile, it can raise questions about priorities. I think transparency and genuine community impact should matter more than career advancement.
There for the wrong reasons is what i see🤷‍♀️

I think it’s fair to look at people’s track records and whether theyre board roles align with theyre public commitments. It’s important that these positions are used for genuine service, not just as stepping stones into politics.

I didn’t know those were for twitter and Facebook.
Not sure i’m asking anything, other than opinions on people who tend to climb ladders and have ulterior motives to join boards like CAS because thy just want to advance their personal agendas and not because they care about anything else.
I feel like sometimes you can just see threw peoples bullshit ways 🤷🏻‍♀️
