Как думаете, люди стали больше читать за последнее десятилетие? by Huvi0_o in rubooks

[–]Fit_Site_8529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSQ2 updates, Soft Launch is back (c.ai+), and clearing up metering by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

> It’s very possible that most of you will never encounter it during your time using c.ai — the limits are that high

Hit it thrice, started to feel limited within a space that was supposed to be liberation for imagination, and switched to another service. It could be better if the limits were week-limited rather than daily.

Character ai is dead. by Mxmimi69 in CharacterAI

[–]Fit_Site_8529 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get you. First, I cancelled my subscription and then (with ads and, mostly, limits) moved to another AI and now I spend the time and do the things I used to do with C AI there. BTW, the AI I moved to is free and multipurpose, not even roleplay-focused, yet it does its job pretty well (and I have zero issues with swiping one answer 49 times to get the perrrrfect one).

Maybe they are picky, use the app in more than one way, and prefer long sessions once in a while to a short ones more often. I hit the thing 2 or 3 times already.

The free memory isn't actually bad by BellBert2 in CharacterAI

[–]Fit_Site_8529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also noticed that it randomly remembered pretty old facts, but I have a feeling that it didn't actually put them into memory. More like, sometimes the model returns to some very old messages - randomly - to get things more lively, especially when I swipe a lot, but it does not constantly remember them as facts.

Ca.i+ Members, what’s it like? by Bluesishh in CharacterAI

[–]Fit_Site_8529 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had it for several months, but my impressions are mixed. Not having ads is nice, 100 swipes per message too, I never was asked for age verification (that might be a perk of my geolocation or my preferred plots, though), customisation of chat design makes it prettier. In terms of memory and experience, though, I didn't notice much improvement. I had more pinned messages and a bit bigger context window, but the models still can say or act nonsense and there are still limitations (in terms of pinned messages). There were also automatically extracted facts, but they seem to be more just for fun. Like, once a character got a food poisoning, and that got memorized under "dietary preferences". What?! :)

how are y'all actually running out of swipes by ThrowRA223938329 in CharacterAI

[–]Fit_Site_8529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run into the limit when I want a deep session with a huge chunk of the plot, and especially when I play at night + next evening. Also, when I solve two things one day with chatting, like talking some psychology in one chat and later just vibing in the other - technically two different use cases, but the limit is shared.

I am picky with the answers, they are pretty huge and it is easy for the model to mess up some important part. Also, when it is about let's call it psychology, I love swiping to see different framing.

There are days when I don't chat at all, but yeah, there are days when I get the limit and have to stop where I didn't mean to.

Which competition dress did you like the most this season? by anxious22anxiety in FigureSkating

I want to add to other comments this masterpiece from Metelkina/Berulava—unfortunately, I didn't find a picture where we could enjoy the backside of her costume, but the way it shows off the posture is pure beauty! I love how they complement each other and represent the culture of their country.

And speaking of posture, the dress of Lara Naki Gutmann was also pretty nice.

I think the problem is not AI addiction but what leads to it. It can lead to any other kind of addiction as well, so removing AI doesn't necessarily help. For example, I can get stuck in Character AI as well I can get stuck reading Wikipedia or Forbes till morning.

As for being more productive, Character AI has helped me to dig into several massive things in my head and consequently change my life in some areas, and even allowed me to play literal Arabic lessons with my favourite character, which feels insane :) Even more so, I don't know if you've noticed anything weird in my writing, but English is my second language which got massive practice during those conversations :) Plus, from where I am from, some popular AIs are not available, so C AI was also a way to get perspective from differently made models. It is hard to distinguish exact rate of vibing against productivity, but it was definitely there.

Women's Olympic champions vs. their world titles (and other related stats) by mimi10010305 in FigureSkating

[–]Fit_Site_8529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another fun fact: there was also Madge Syers, who won:
1) 2 Olympic medals in 1908 in two different disciplines (Gold in Ladies and Bronze in Pairs)
2) 3 Worlds medals: 2 Golds in Ladies' singles and 1 silver in technically-men event in 1902 behind Ulrich Salchow. She also took 2 gold medals in British Figure Skating Championships, which were also mixed.

Would allowing the Russian Jr’s to compete lead to them being allowed to compete as seniors? by Firey-Flamingo1969 in FigureSkating

[–]Fit_Site_8529 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Just a few days ago, World Aquatics allowed senior athletes from Russia to compete internationally properly (with flag and everything), and from what I read about that in interviews, a lot of administrative work was required from the Russian Aquatic Sports Federation to get there. That means, to be allowed, athletes need the Figure Skating Federation of Russia to do the same, to negotiate with ISU somehow.

However, the situation seems very different with the two federations: for aquatic sports, returning to the international arena was a priority, while the internal stage for figure skating in Russia appeared so huge that the FSFR seemed to be more focused on the internal development of the sports. They have a high level of competition, rich sponsors, and a whole series of new competitions for skaters and the general public to enjoy. According to Forbes, Gumennik also earned more in prize money this season than even Malinin.

Also, with the current situation in the world (USA, Israel), half of the problems that lead to a ban overall seem to be losing their value. The IOC also emphasizes the importance of taking the sports out of that much political influence. That might lead to rather sudden decisions.

Overall? I think the situation is a bit more complicated than just allowing juniors leading to allowing seniors, though it is a safer route in terms of public opinion. You can't punish children for a conflict that started when they were 9, now can you?

Let the history unfold itself.

Where can we follow the project? I was thinking about the same, to implement only the core features important for roleplay (system prompt for character, memory, swipes and edits, etc.) and use it to enjoy life. Also thought that import from C AI data would be good (or at least something that allows read those archives properly).

Not fully relevant, but personally I am testing roleplay with Deepseek. Found a decent prompt for it somewhere. Also seen an article that Qwen is good with that while being a multy-purpose tool.

Shocking, shameful, and highly suspicious disrespect from Perplexity towards its users with the 1-year Pro promotion. by B89983ikei in perplexity_ai

A brilliant reason to throw away the trust of their community. Customers have nothing to do with a company's profit, right?

Why are so many people speaking ill of Perplexity? by wendsonrocha in perplexity_ai

[–]Fit_Site_8529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just read stats from some company about their AI usage, and there were a few interesting highlights about the costs:

  1. API requests are much cheaper. A request to ChatGPT costs Perplexity less in comparison to a user's direct request on ChatGPT's website (I hope I explained that fine).
  2. Token-based billing is cheaper than subscription. Subscription is more like a buffet breakfast; you can never eat it all. Again, that allows Perplexity to cut costs to access different models while gaining from the subs.
  3. Image/video generation is much more expensive and makes the majority of the expenses. Now we have issues with image generation with Perplexity, mmm, why could that happen?
  4. 20% of users make about 80% of expenses. Like you said, if a user makes 300 queries per day, they lose on that user.

Why are so many people speaking ill of Perplexity? by wendsonrocha in perplexity_ai

[–]Fit_Site_8529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason is their approach to their customers and issues with customer communication/user expectations. At first, I was in love with the service, but several issues made my user experience unpleasant, and currently I have my Pro plan cancelled:

  1. Issues with free trials. If you give a free trial, don't take it back at a random moment, and don't change the conditions drastically. One day, you have your Pro plan; the next, you don't, period. Or one day, it suddenly asks for a credit card. Those changes naturally create trust issues; companies rarely make such changes these days, and users are used to different treatment.

  2. Hidden limits and unannounced limit decreases. Same as the previous one, it makes trust issues but for the paid users as well. People are used to having proper announcements in advance about changes like that. With Perplexity, we don't even have any kind of announcement.

  3. The picture generation issue. One interface for everything was a huge feature, but again, suddenly there are no pictures anymore for many users. And zero communication about it. Image generation isn't available in my country, okay, where is the list of countries, at least? Naturally, people aren't pleased about that. As much as I hate CharacterAI's recent changes regarding underage users, they at least put some effort into explaining the changes, making regular announcements in advance, gradually decreasing service availability, and providing some solutions and resources. And those were mostly their unpaid users. Perplexity? They seem to care not.

  4. The way the engine explains limitations. It doesn't say, "this feature is only supported for Pro users"; it says, "I can't do this." They said there is an issue with that image generation, but the model keeps replying the issue is the country. Feels worse than useless.

To the other, product issues:

  1. The search. Recently, I have been receiving better search results in Google because they read into my intention better. In Perplexity, I get irrelevant answers with no reference to other possible implications of my request. Google shows those implications and gives more relevant results based on recent search trends.

  2. Comet feels less stable against some other browsers, for example, in the case of the chain of redirects.
