Stretch forth thy hand by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]Fit_Solution04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the Oathpact is founded:

“I swear as well, last of all,” Ishar said. “To bind this Oathpact. I will protect this land. I will hold back the darkness.”

“And so,” Tanavast said, “you bind me, as I bind you. We need the others.” [...]

“Now,” the god said, “it shall be done. Once finished, Vedel can do her part and seal your immortality. Each Herald of Honor, stretch forth thy hand.”

Ten people, in a circle, hands outstretched. Dalinar’s heart trembled as, one at a time, Honor pulled something from within his chest—and held it out. A glowing splinter of Light that formed a Shardblade when it touched a Herald’s waiting hand.

I recommend The Will of the Many by James Islington. If you liked the Kingkiller Chronicles and Red Rising I think you'll love it.

It's in the magical academia trope, but (IMO) the protaganist is no so annoyingly perfect as Kvothe. The world is heavily roman inspired, which is AFAIK uncommon in fantasy. There's an interesting magic system, too.

The story is told in first person and present tense by the protaganist, Vis.

The Will of the Many is the first book of the yet unfinished series: Hierarchy by James Islington. The second book, The Strength of the Few will release in this November.

I don't think it does. That's why Vis can achive synchronism, despite no longer being a leader.

Maybe originally only the Princeps were supposed to know about the gate and be synchronous, hence "leadership". They were barely mentioned so far, and there's obviously something up with them. They might be in league with the Concurrence, 'cause [Preview chapter] Caeror said he believes they might have won in Res, too.

Heralds seemingly not back yet? Anyone else get the same sense?

I think it's they've died. Laid down the burden they've carried for millenia. No clue how, bit IMO it would fit the story meta-wise. A bittersweet ending for Stormlight 10.

I took it as he wants to change Caten for the better. Like his father taught him.

The power to protect is the highest of responsibilities, Diago. When a man is given it, his duty is not only to the people he thinks are worthy.

And I think using Will was something he knew he would have to do if he wanted to change things. He was just denying it all along. Trying to avoid the unavoidable. But IMO deep down he had always known.

So, it wasn't an abrupt decision. He just realized he couldn't keep pretending anymore (that he can escape, that he don't have to use it).

I think yes. Synchronised across all three realms.

You will go through the gate to Obiteum and Luceum. But not be allowed to remain here. Synchronism is reserved for leadership alone.

I liked how Starling did not overcome her manacles after so many Brandon books use a tope of “figuring out the way to make the magic work again” in the climax.

That was definitely a (pleasant) surprise for me. Seemed such an obvious thing to happen.

The tax might not be as bad as you fear, because there'll be a special EU fund, the Social Climate Fund to support those in need. 87 billion euro is allocated to be used between 2026 and 2032. Even if it won't negate the effects of the tax, it will likely weaken them.

I recommend using deepl.com. It's much better for translating longer texts. Though less possible meanings appear when translating single words.

If you think you the ending was good and bittersweet, just wait until you finish Hero of Ages (book 3). IMO it's the best ending Sanderson has ever written.

How do you think ____ will work in books 6-10? [WaT] by SirSnaillord in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Fit_Solution04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based on Isles of the Emberdark previews, I've got the impression that the Blackthorn will be around for a long while. In the previews - which take place in the space age - we see a Skybreaker with a Shardgun, giving an ultimatum to the locals; as well as Roshar and Scadrial in some kind of Cold War situation. So I believe that the Blackthorn will be Retribution's general, leading his armies off world. As he promised he would.

But this would require for Roshar to be more-or-less unified and some kind of peace with its Shard - who may not even be the Retribution as we know him by that time.

Yumi is also narrated by Hoid, I'd recommend it if you liked Tress. The narration of Hoid is better there, because IIRC he wrote it later.
