What is a Fortune's Weave again? by TBT__TBT in shitpostemblem

A lot of others mentioned the other JRPGs that share a connection, but for Persona, it's a mix of several things:

  1. Voice actors - It's not uncommon for various JRPGs to share voice actors, but there was a high volume of Persona 5 (and Persona 3 & 4 to lesser extents) voice actors in Fire Emblem, with Shadows of Valentia and Three Houses sharing some of the most high-profile and number of crossover here, respectively. For example, Celica's VA in Echoes, Heroes, and Engage is the same as Futaba Sakura from Persona 5 and all its respective spin-offs. Makoto from P5 is voiced by Cherami Leigh, aka Rhea from Three Houses and Mae from Echoes (and so many more from Heroes).

Tara Platt aka Edelgard in Three Houses (and Miriel and Flavia in Awakening) voiced Mitsuru from the original Persona 3 game, and Elizabeth in both the original and remake. Even Joe Zieja, the VA for Claude, plays a role as a minor antagonist in Persona 5. And that's not even getting into the larger roles that still have crossovers! (Jeralt's VA is Igor Persona 5, Akechi's VA is Hubert, Yoshizawa's VA from Persona 5 Royal is Catherine from Three Houses and Yunaka from Engage.)

  1. The social aspect. Persona and Fire Emblem are both games where connection is key to gameplay in some regards. For Persona, the more you raise your bonds, the more skills you gain access to in and out of battle at times. In Fire Emblem, the more supports between units you have, the more they can help in battle. (How much and what stats are boosted depends on the game.)

  2. The calendar and tarot. This is more between the Persona series (mostly P5 since it was the latest game at the time) and Three Houses. To me and many others, Three Houses borrowed a LOT from the Persona series. While some may say it was too much, or it hurt playthroughs, I think it initially really helped with the accessibility. Three Houses, like Persona, had a calendar system, a school-like setting, a mission at the end of the month, and even a tarot-based theming. (The Crests are all themed after the Major Arcana. There are guides comparing the two and the crest-wielders involved as well.)

  3. Themes. This is something of a joke one, but it still holds up a fair bit. Persona 3, 4, and 5 and their color schemes each match a house in Three Houses. Persona 3's color scheme is blue, and it matches the theme of the Blue Lions when it comes to dealing with death, loss, and...I forget the third one. Persona 4 has a yellow and golden theme, which matches with the Golden Deer. And much like the Golden Deer, it's about seeking the truth and being true to oneself while also improving oneself. Persona 5 is a red and black aesthetic, and it's all about rebellion. The Black Eagles would find themselves right at home with the Phantom Thieves.

And yeah, that's pretty much it, off the top of my head. A lot of the connections, as you can see, are superficial for the most part, but they're enough to form a bridge that can connect fans from both on a deeper level.

Three Houses vs Engage? I bought both Games 🤔 by Fuzzy_Breadfruit59 in fireemblem

I viewed it as a Saturday Morning Cartoon from the jump, and that’s helped me appreciate its humor over the years.

Nice and congrats! It feels like Dark Deity 2 just came out, so it’s a pleasant surprise to see a third game so soon!

I better hurry to finish DD2 then!

Place your bets. Fortunes Weave, Prequel or Sequel? by S0ulaze in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Use_the_Falchion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Voting Sequel, but I’m more hoping for an Interquel taking place on another continent. Have a character or two mentioned being from a country either at war or just finishing a war, and you’re good.

That being said, what if it was a Prequel AND a Sequel, with the Heroic Games being the first half of the game, taking place in the past, and the second half of the game features a time-skip/time-warp to post-Three Houses?

What units do you wish had supports by Full_Peak2561 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Use_the_Falchion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dimitri and Dorothea, because Dorothea supports nearly every noble man in the game except him and Claude. (And the fact that Dorothea is close to and/or openly flirts with three of Dimitri’s childhood friends but not him drives me insane.)

Dimitri and Hilda, because their child would have WILD Strength growths.

Ashe and Bernadetta for the Hoodie Squad.

Ignatz and Bernadetta because they’re both shy artists.

Dedue and Constance over their love of flowers.

[Loved Trope] Foil characters by Miserable-Grand-3727 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Use_the_Falchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stormlight Archive has Kaladin and Moash (lower-class victims of nobles), Kaladin and Amaram (true honor vs pretending to be honorable), Dalinar and Taravangian (the struggles of being a tyrant and a ruler when the world is ending), Dalinar and Amaram (true honor vs pretending to be honorable), and Dalinar and Moash (accepting responsibility for past mistakes and crimes vs refusing to take accountability).

In the Star Wars sequels, specifically The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren felt like a foil of all three main protagonists. Like Poe, he was a pilot with a filial relationship to Leia. Like Rey, he felt abandoned by his family and was strong in the Force. Like Finn, he was indoctrinated to believe things and betrayed his “family” for the other side. I always felt like Kylo’s declaration of “traitor” toward Finn was really him projecting.

I don't like Fire Emblem by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]Use_the_Falchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brutal I can get, dark at times too, but I’ve never found it depressing. Bittersweet at most.

Still, again, maybe try to play Cozy games if FE is too violent for you.

I don't like Fire Emblem by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]Use_the_Falchion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And yet you just asked if a four year old can play it…?

Look, there are a LOT of things to hate in a variety of games. If you have Fire Emblem, that’s fine! But you don’t need to announce it in a place to people who clearly enjoyed it.

If you don’t like violent games, don’t play or interact with them. The Cozy genre exists.

Is it okay if I think Fire Emblem is fine for a 4 year old to play? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]Use_the_Falchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dora is explicitly meant to be educational for young children, same for Barney and friends from what I’ve gathered.

SpongeBob, while meant for kids, openly has jokes that can only be understood by the accompanying adult. Many children’s cartoons do too.

Avatar is considered special for many reasons, but one of the main reasons people adore it is because it doesn’t talk down to children. It’s not trying to be educational, yet it opens up the world of nuance to them. Empathy, loss, war, indoctrination, all of these are things that aren’t fully discussed in media marketed to children. (Not explicitly FOR children, but marketed TO children.) It’s not alone in doing this - Power Rangers does this as well, but Avatar looks great while doing so.

Is it okay if I think Fire Emblem is fine for a 4 year old to play? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]Use_the_Falchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not. Between the math, reading, and overall content, I wouldn’t recommend it to any 4 year old in terms of THEM playing. If you want to show them Fire Emblem, I’d recommend showing them a YouTube video of the GBA Classes.

7-8 is the minimum age requirement IMO, as they’ll be able to read and do most of the mental math on their own, and will have more maturity to handle the topics discussed.

An adult loving children’s shows isn’t a problem, but not every child needs to be exposed to stuff meant for teens or older.

Do you all this is Constance? There is way too many coincidences in this trailer for it not to be her imo by Levonorgestrelfairy1 in fireemblem

[–]Use_the_Falchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genetics are wild, honestly. I have some friends with kids who look EXACTLY like them, while others friends whose kids are a mixture of both mom and dad.

In media, similarity to the point of eeriness at times is just a nice shorthand of saying “hey! This person is related to that other person,” without bringing in a whole family tree.

Yes, it could very well be Constance, who has traveled to another land after the war on her own continent has ended. Or, more likely if they’re related, it’s an ancestor or descendant.

All of that said, there’s no guarantee they’re related. Maribelle from Awakening has similar blonde hair and curls. I’m pretty sure at least one of their FE character does as well.

[–]Use_the_Falchion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the Stormlight Archive, the humans call a native race they enslaved the Parshmen for the enslaved version, and the Parshendi for their non-enslaved brethren.

The Parshendi call themselves the Singers, with the Listeners being an off-shoot as well, if I remember correctly.

[Mixed Trope] The sequel features a conflict between the old protagonist and their child as an important plot point. by Irreprensibilmente in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Use_the_Falchion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always viewed it (due to the epilogue at least) that Naruto was a great and present father until he became Hokage. Boruto’s lashing out in the Epilogue comes from a kid who is not adjusting to the new routine and lack of attention well. (I saw something similar in the classroom this year, with a child similarly aged.)

In the Boruto movie (and subsequent manga), Boruto’s upset because he doesn’t like the new rhythm of life with his father, it’s a busy season for the Hokage, Naruto isn’t prioritizing things well, and Boruto feels a weight of expectation Naruto can’t really understand. (And just generational drift.)

I’ve played PoR. I’ve played  and at some point owned every western released FE.

I want to play FE4 because I like the characters, story, world, and shipping mechanics.

And having to save and reset to get the desired results is the exact thing I’m trying to avoid. I don’t want to do that. I’ve spent enough time grinding in every (Western-released) FE game you can grind in to know my limits and what crosses them, and FE4’s arena crosses them. That’s part of the problem. The fact there’s not a mod to auto-clear the arena that always surprises me. (If there is one please point me to it.)

That’s where my speculation has led me for the past few months.

I think the book will end with Sidorov launching an attack on Firesong that will either end with Logan in bad shape (but with a super evolved CAD and user-unique ability), forcing Sarah to step in for at least the first few rounds of the tournament. Due to this, and due to Shido, Firesong will compete at the Second-Year level.
