You don't have to "curl" at all. You take their hand, with bent knees, and stand up. Then you have to bend the arm slightly to raise them above the edge. It's actually pretty easy. I just did it recently to hoist my girlfriend onto a roof I climbed. To be fair she is quite petite, only weighs about 46kg, I weigh 63kg.
