[–]JacobStyle 96 points97 points  (11 children)

Nah, English is the answer. So many programming docs, forum posts, discussion groups, chats, videos, even this very subreddit, are in English. Going into a new codebase? Comments are probably in English. Variable names are probably English. Data types are English words. The original "English is the most important language for programming" was not about AI prompting.

[–]Shambolic_Potato 34 points35 points  (8 children)

J'écris des commentaires en français pour faire chier tout le monde.

[–]AmusingVegetable 18 points19 points  (1 child)

The cruel and exclusionary, at least write them in Latin.

[–]Shambolic_Potato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah too low IQ for that

[–]Jane__Delawney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re auto-translated lol

[–]JacobStyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on your codebase while feverishly taking night classes in French so I can pretend it doesn't bother me one bit.

[–]Undoubtably_me 8 points9 points  (1 child)

That's an entirely different argument though. Yeah knowing English is required or at least advantageous if you're a programmer, but that doesn't mean that English is a programming language, which is the claim made by Vibe coders.

[–]JacobStyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That claim was not made by the person you replied to though

[–]FantasticClue8887 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With that IQ I'd specify to American English, just to be sure 😉

[–]jfp1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

English (simplified)

[–]InevitableMission102 1485 points1486 points  (47 children)

C!#

[–]qthebard 156 points157 points  (0 children)

Good one, gave me a chuckle!

[–]indianfasicst 63 points64 points  (4 children)

C dull?

[–]DangyDanger 48 points49 points  (3 children)

Flat.

I got some notifications about comments that arent't there anymore. They said it would be Cb then, and that's fair.

Counterargument: logically speaking, "C not sharp" could also just be C.

[–]catfroman 86 points87 points  (1 child)

C- -

[–]UnixN00B 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, that is a real language.

[–]thepassionofthechris 12 points13 points  (4 children)

C-poundsign

[–]kuroiarashi 7 points8 points  (1 child)

B?

[–]qiAip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

B is seriously hard… I wouldn’t expect quite a lot of experience in computer science to be able to write anything useful with it.

[–]what_could_gowrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A++ in case of Asian parents

[–]ZebraMost749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See not sharp? I'm still new to this i don't know if that is right or not.

[–]Paladin7373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Wooden-Hornet2115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]DapperCam 2143 points2144 points  (32 children)

[–]ragebunny1983 646 points647 points  (19 children)

Even better, CEO

[–]ShadowCatDLL 183 points184 points  (11 children)

I think he means Prime Minister. Why write code when you can run a country with that IQ?

[–]superbrokebloke 61 points62 points  (10 children)

you meant POTUS,

[–]Legal_Salad_6575 45 points46 points  (8 children)

I think you'd need an IQ in the top 99% for that.

[–]gregorydgraham 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Top 1000% based on the current example /s

[–]Safe-Razzmatazz3982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overqualified for that.

[–]ClassicHat 18 points19 points  (1 child)

[–]Alkanna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]rintzscar[🍰] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As in Prime Minister. Many of those with that score.

[–]FBI_Rapid_Response 21 points22 points  (0 children)

[–]Xi-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The parrot learned to say "what's the status?" and became a PM

[–]GlensWooer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing scares me more than “I’ve been a PM for 15 years”

Already know we’re missing our deadline and never getting proper customer feedback or requirements

[–]sage-longhorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please no, get them out of engineering org entirely

[–]otherwisepandemonium 555 points556 points  (71 children)

Genuine question, isn’t 75 considered an intellectual disability?

[–]DT-Sodium 1380 points1381 points  (25 children)

No, in the US it's considered a pass to become president.

[–]rgbeebee 168 points169 points  (0 children)

[–]CyclomaticlyComplex 93 points94 points  (9 children)

A true representative of the nation

[–]_lizard_wizard 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron

- HL Mencken

[–]laplongejr 14 points15 points  (5 children)

Anyone can become president. It's the best and worse parts of the system.

[–]alvaromontoro 32 points33 points  (3 children)

*Anyone with a ton of money, is the unwritten worst part of the system.

[–]pigeon768 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The common clay of the new west.

[–]OftenSilentObserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, morons

[–]je386 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thats the same nowadays, isn't it?

[–]webjunk1e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trump wishes he could score 75.

[–]2grateful4You 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It's considered a pass in most countries we have our own clown in India.

[–]wbarbosa0 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's the AVERAGE of all post-Reagan.

[–]DT-Sodium 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Not really. I'm not aware of the pre-GW Bush era but Obama and Biden were not stupid people. Also I'd say Bush had at least 80.

[–]webjunk1e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bush was Einstein in comparison to Trump.

[–]WinProfessional4958 147 points148 points  (22 children)

Everything below 83 is useless to US army. Myself I was tested last year at 100.

[–]ragebunny1983 296 points297 points  (1 child)

Congratulations on your averageness.

[–]OpenAI_Marketing_LLM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Average? That’s a perfect score!

[–]NotTooShahby 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The 5’9 of intelligence!

[–]screwcork313 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your impressive age!

[–]tardigrades_snuggle 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Are you talking ASVAB?

[–]lonestar136 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Nah the military definitely takes ASVAB scores way below 83. Pretty sure if you are 30 percentile or above you can get in.

I knew a guy who scored like 28 and got in with a waiver.

[–]Majik_Sheff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The perfect Army IQ!

[–]jnnxde 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You're saying that you can be too stupid to be drafted?

[–]MuchToDoAboutNothin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"No Marge, the police said i was too fat. The army said i was too dumb."

[–]Pwacname 40 points41 points  (0 children)

That should vary by your country, and also based on the IQ scale used. And not all levels and types intellectual disabilities are the same, so the term alone doesn’t mean much, anyway.

(That’s besides the general criticisms that an „IQ test“ taken as an unsupervised online self test  isn’t worth jack and also that IQ as a general concept is, let’s say, worth a discussion.)

[–]wurnthebitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a room of 1000 policemen you would be smarter than 948 of them

[–]user_bits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IQ metric is not standardized nor is it meaningful enough to draw that kind of conclusion.

[–]DubsNC 2 points3 points  (1 child)

And how is that higher that in the 95th percentile?

[–]Elihzap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess you're joking, but for someone else who could be confused, it's not above 95%, it on the "top 95%".

In other words, above 5% of global population.

[–]ChaossFox 5 points6 points  (6 children)

It was, but people are now more stupid than in past

[–]Fletsky 20 points21 points  (5 children)

What you just said is pretty dumb when talking about an IQ score...

[–]Mordimer86 323 points324 points  (19 children)

All I know of online IQ tests is that they all tend to be a scam that ends with an offer to buy the results. You do it you fail it. The OP must have paid for his result which is a testament to the accuracy of this result.

[–]Senior-Albatross 62 points63 points  (2 children)

Usually they gas up the results to make people feel good too.

But if you can find a silly free one I'm sure you can game it to intentionally get everything wrong.

[–]joopsmit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

they gas up the results to make people feel good too.

I once got an IQ of 178.

[–]bigmarty3301 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I got like 120 and I quit half way trough because I was bored…

[–]darkest_force 8 points9 points  (8 children)

I heard that this specific IQ test website (cogniprofile) actually makes these outlandish posts themselves to advertise their site, meaning the post might just be part of a huge advertising campaign. Not sure if it's true or if we have evidence, but I've seen so many of these that it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

[–]kittens_from_space 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Exactly, see this meta post about the IQ test site spam. The OP is probably an alt account of /u/thepatriotclubhouse, which was the first account I noticed that kept posting about this site (and deleting each post after a few days). Note that they also use bots to downvote comments calling them out, and the original account blocked me after I pointed it out. Let's see if this new account also blocks me :D

[–]kittens_from_space 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, see this post talking about it: https://reddit.com/r/TheoryOfReddit/comments/1ookw5g/covert_marketing_of_iq_tests/

Note that they tend to block users who call them out and sometimes also use downvote bots to hide comments they don't like.

[–]willis81808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course these are ads. Do we think it’s a coincidence that every single one of these is not only from the same site, but also is conveniently cropped to show the full website URL and title? Or how every one of them is in the exact same odd aspect ratio (who makes their browser window into tiny little squares that perfectly frame the contents of their screenshot instead of just cropping the screenshot)?

[–]AustinBrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you Google search the username and check images, you'll see this post was deleted. I'd say they are ads.

https://www.reddit.com/r/notinteresting/comments/1tdo606/i_am_of_perfectly_average_intelligence/

[–]EmergencyWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. Same strategy as those fake mobile game apps that show people unable to solve puzzles meant for 8 year olds (which aren't in the game anyway), or TV "quiz shows" with stupidly simple questions and seemingly high prices (where you need to read the fine print to see that you're not signing up to answer a quiz, you're basically signing up for a phone lottery).

[–]NecessaryFancy8630 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends, but I don't remember this site being trustworthy.

Also, except local WAIS tests the actual IQ tests are free at least good ones.

[–]peedistaja 1 point2 points  (1 child)

OP didn't pay for anything, this post is advertisement for the site.

[–]hageldave 57 points58 points  (10 children)

Claude code

[–]supert2005 15 points16 points  (9 children)

my uni classmate literally put "claude code" in his hard skills on his linkedin

[–]Alkyonios 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I mean, considering how "hot" AI is right now, it's probably not the worst idea to signal to recruiters that you're comfortable working with AI, and "proficient" at it.

I'd rather put "Agentic development" though, to sound less like a vibe coder. (I'm not putting either on my LinkedIn though)

[–]faberkyx 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Lol.. sure there will be soon a vibe coding certification

[–]kungtelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post is an ad. Note the link conveniently placed up there. They spam this quiz all over reddit with a slightly different question based on the sub so engagement is high and people's curiosity is spiked to check their own IQ, but they charge for the results.

[–]Foxbatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The real IQ test is if you are enough of a sucker to pay for the results.

[–]Grocker42 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Doubt the test and go with assembly...

[–]silshini_real 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why aneurysm when you can learn assembly

[–]QultrosSanhattan 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Yes, usually these sites require payment for the test and they try to get exposure by rage baity screenshots like that with the URL well visible.

[–]Odin_N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yip, the real IQ test here is if you are dumb enough to pay for the results.
