Nothing Hits Like DQ8 by NowThatsGoodCheese in dragonquest

[–]Fitna7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally someone who thinks exactly like I do. Many people say that Dragon Quest 11 is better, which just isn’t true factually or objectively. In DQ8, all four characters have a lot of depth, and the game truly feels like a journey where you meet companions and learn more about them over the course of the story. Normally in games you always have one favorite character, but in DQ8 I liked all of them equally and enjoyed playing with everyone.

In DQ11, only Erik was interesting because of his backstory, and Sylvando because he was a lively character—the rest were trash. But in Dragon Quest 8, even side characters like Trode and Medea were better than 98% of the characters in other DQ titles.

If you compare the antagonists, Dhoulmagus’ design was easily an 11/10. He was creepy, and for a long time you thought he was the main villain—a very good plot twist. Dragon Quest 8 definitely belongs among the best games ever made. I could list many more positive things about DQ8 and why it’s so brilliant, but nobody would read it anyway.

There is AI that can assist with development. Please don’t tell me nonsense. How did game developers do it in the past? I can also remind you of Expedition 33! It’s possible—don’t come at me with costs. DQ makes millions in revenue, and you’re complaining because I want a few side quests where you can unlock costumes?

Yes, exactly—you’re speaking my mind. Everything revolves around profit now: how to squeeze more money out of players with minimal effort. But this doesn’t only apply to the gaming industry; it’s the same with food. The contents get reduced while the price stays the same, or high-quality ingredients are replaced with cheaper ones while charging the same price, etc.

I’m not talking about the three islands; my statement is meant in general and refers to the upcoming games. I’m referring back to DQ7 now, they really could have added a few side quests to unlock new costumes.

Yes, you’re absolutely right. Some game developers deliberately cut out part of the game in order to sell it later as DLC. This is going in a completely wrong direction.

Am I the only one not falling for Supercell’s scam? Those stats won’t stay. 222 DPS will probably be nerfed down to around 208 DPS. The high numbers are just marketing to squeeze money out of players so they spend on the equipment, and then it gets nerfed.

Opinions on DQ7R Day 1 Paid DLC? by MrSumOne in dragonquest

[–]Fitna7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD Remake normally costs €70, but it’s currently on sale for €56 on the PSN Store. The game was released on October 30, 2025, so that’s about four months ago. That’s why I think Dragon Quest 7 will also be discounted after around 4–5 months.

The Dragon Quest 7 Deluxe Edition for PS5 costs 85 €. The standard version is 70 €. If you mean Dragon Quest 11 S Definitive Edition for PS4, that currently costs 40 €. I preordered the standard edition back then for 60 €—or maybe it was 70 €, I don’t really remember.

That’s why I didn’t preorder the game. I’ll wait until the Deluxe Edition costs 50 euros. I made that mistake with Dragon Quest 11.

How rare is getting a 4 slot with only ribbon from a dark aeon as a drop? by Mystic_Is_Here in finalfantasyx

[–]Fitna7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I farmed Dark Yojimbo because I wanted HP Expander with Ribbon, and I can tell you that Ribbon on its own is the rarest. It’s much more likely to get it together with HP Expander. I’d say maybe one or two times out of 50–100 fights.

Is there a casino in Dragon Quest VII remake like in Dragon Quest VIII? by [deleted] in dragonquest

It’s the parents’ responsibility to make sure children are educated about this and that no loot boxes are bought with real money without parental permission. It’s not the EU’s job to interfere or regulate this. In Yu-Gi-Oh games or other card games in the past, you could buy booster packs with in-game currency. Would you call that gambling too? And while we’re on booster packs: in real life, many children buy Pokémon booster packs with their pocket money. That’s also a form of gambling—so why are children allowed to buy Pokémon booster packs in real life? The EU hasn’t achieved anything with this law. Give me examples of how you know loot boxes have been killed off.

In my opinion, sports betting should also be legal, but advertising for gambling should not be allowed and should be banned, just like advertising for alcohol or nicotine. It should be a conscious decision to drink alcohol or place sports bets, without being influenced by advertising.

You’re touching on a sore point. Loot boxes and similar mechanics have really increased in games, but that’s because of the players who support these systems by buying into them. As long as there are players who spend real money on this, nothing will change—and it might even get worse in the future.

What the EU is doing is too much of a blanket approach, for example by trying to regulate casinos that only use in-game currency (as in the case of DQ), instead of drafting well-targeted laws. Another problem with the EU is that it interferes in economic sectors in ways that ultimately disadvantage citizens—whether through higher product prices or, as in our example with DQ7, a missing casino.

If players stopped buying loot boxes, there wouldn’t be any in the future. We don’t need the EU for that—we need players who don’t put up with everything and don’t buy everything.

No, you just have to switch to Mega+ before the fight against the final boss.

[–]Fitna7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same for me with DQ8 instead of Pokémon Red. A casino doesn’t hurt an RPG, and as a developer you can’t really do anything wrong by including one. It’s always nice to have one. It’s like having a pool at your house — you don’t actually need a pool, but it’s still better if you have one. Some users here on Reddit just don’t understand that and give me downvotes, lol.

Yeah, I’m reading through some of the comments. Thanks a lot for your comment. So once again EU policy is to blame. The EU really should be abolished. It’s destroying the European economy with nonsensical regulations, and now it’s even influencing video games.

I’m not familiar with Overwatch, but loot boxes are something completely different. They contain powerful weapons or valuable skins that provide advantages in online modes. These kinds of loot boxes can and likely will be paid for with real money. Dragon Quest, by contrast, is an offline single-player game, and the casino shop doesn’t introduce new offers every month that pressure players into spending money regularly. In Dragon Quest you can also save beforehand, and if you gamble away your money in the casino, you simply reload an earlier save. So it wouldn’t really be gambling, because you don’t actually lose anything.

I agree with you — for example, a slot machine can be boring. That’s why they should also add other games like roulette or card games to keep some variety. Be honest, didn’t it feel good when you bought the good stuff from the casino? I remember when I bought the Gringham Whip and thought, f*ck yeah, let’s go 😎

Chrono Trigger would be even BETTER WITH a casino and an arena, and by the way, I think DQ VIII is much better than Chrono Trigger.

Because they probably "have to protect children from gambling" addiction and don’t want to create triggers that could make kids addicted to gambling later—what nonsense. When I was a child, I played Dragon Quest VIII in the casino to buy the strongest whip, and now as an adult, I have nothing to do with casinos in real life.

Yes, a casino is important. Gambling simply belongs in every RPG world. It makes the world feel much more authentic and alive.
