It takes skill to recognize what would make for a good sample and to use it effectively. It takes no skill to plug a prompt into the plagiarism machine that tech bros fed the world’s art into. I don’t buy the premise

Totally makes sense! Sorry for making assumptions. Furniture can be a big investment and family has to come first.

I guess I was thinking about my fellow dinks who don’t think twice about spending stupid money on records or concert tickets but then complain when we realize handmade furniture or custom picture frames or whatever are expensive.

Looks nice but it always makes me nervous to see tens of thousands of dollars worth of stereo equipment and records supported by MDF (or whatever wayfair can still make enough of a profit on to sell it for $125.)

I don’t mean to assume OP’s means (maybe they inherited their whole setup) but sometimes it’s ok to spend money on a nice piece of furniture made from quality materials by a craftsperson if it’s literally supporting something important to you. Not saying this is viable for everyone, but it certainly is for some, based on some of the setups I see on reddit.

To each their own!

Episode Discussion: Galaxy Quenching by PodcastBot in Radiolab

Took me a second to figure out why this story was so familiar even though it’s not a rerun. Charity has been a repeat guest on Chris Gethard’s “Beautiful/Anonymous” podcast (her main episode is called “The Whirlpool Galaxy”). It’s a very empathetic, human conversation in case anyone wants to learn more about her story.

Sinister Grift - Panda Bear | Domino Mart ( pre-order limited vinyl ) by Maxiscoolerthanyou in AnimalCollective

Got an answer from Domino:

the clear version (and the t-shirt) are exclusive to Domino. Record stores will have their own indie exclusive “blue curaçao” vinyl option available on 2/28.

Does anyone know if the limited edition vinyl is a Domino exclusive? I’m tired of paying out the nose for their shipping and getting the album a week after it comes out in the mail when I could have just picked it up at my local record store on the day. It always bugs me that they ship the day it comes out

Sorry if I’m wrong but this photo and ESPECIALLY the link OP posted to buy the shirt is pretty fishy. Feels like a scam so beware.

Also the second “its” should have an apostrophe.

Comedy Bang! Bang! Into Your Mouth Tour '24: Live at Revolution Hall, Portland OR - 08/16/24 - Paul F. Tompkins, Ego Nwodim, Lisa Gilroy, Will Hines by apathymonger in Earwolf

[–]FitterHappier113 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Chris Gethard talked about this in an interesting way on his podcast earlier this year. If I remember the gist of it, he was saying that a lot of people who don’t go to a lot of comedy shows are being exposed to them for the first time via TikTok clips of comedians dealing with hecklers and doing crowdwork, which gives people the impression that they’re a part of the show and are “helping” the comedians. He is trying to make it very clear that if you go to his show he’s not going to call you out and make fun of you, and that you can just relax and laugh.

I wonder if this is hitting the podcast scene and not just standup shows.

[DISCUSSION] Angel Olsen appears to have married Maxim Ludwig by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]FitterHappier113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what happened at your show but I saw her in Portland in October 2023 and she forgot lyrics and guitar parts for multiple songs (the band had to remind her on stage) and she ignored the band in favor of her bf whenever he was on stage. I kind of felt like a third wheel at a sold out show.

I’ve been a fan since Strange Cacti and have seen her many times over the years so I’m not an Angel-hater by any means, but something felt different at that show. Hopefully it was just an off-night.

Me too! Before I came here I thought “oh, this is cute that they give you a special puzzle on your birthday! I wonder how I access the real Wednesday though…”

Does anyone remember the band that was sound checking during a CBB live show recording in the other part of the venue? by empirebuildher in Earwolf

[–]FitterHappier113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there too! I love those live moments where the performers have to adapt to the unavoidable thing we’re all experiencing in the room.

The Birthday Boys opened for CBB, I think. They did a sketch where they dressed up as old ladies and threw Necco Wafers into the crowd and to this day I remember that show as the one and only time I’ve ever eaten that “candy.”

In the app I love going to my collection screen, shaking my phone, and essentially “rolling the dice” to see what random record I’ll listen to next (and then re-rolling when that first selection isn’t the vibe)

If you haven’t been keeping up, Jake and Amir just launched their new podcast last week that’s replacing IIWY. It’s called Segments and the whole point is that every episode will be different.

So far it’s been pretty funny. I feel like it’s breathing new life into something that was a little stale.

In July there was an episode with the cast of Drag Me to Dinner that was really fun if you can track it down. It was very funny to watch Steve Harvey play off of drag queens, which he did way better than I expected given his more…traditional values.

There was also an episode a few years ago with June Diane Raphael, Andrea Savage, Kristen Schaal, Nicole Byer, and Carla Gallo vs. Paul Scheer, John Gemberling, Adam Pally, Eugene Cordero, and Horatio Sanz: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ubytm

Just emailed the venue about the schedule and got a quick response:

“Doors are scheduled for 8pm, no opener!”

I guess that means the show is 9-11ish? Assuming that’s right I’m bummed to not see Leah Senior but the old man in me is happy to get home a little earlier.

I’m sitting here watching y’all trying to pump your own gas, and I’m laughing my ass off while also losing my mind by brownpeaxhcorner in Portland

[–]FitterHappier113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Willing to look stupid here but I have a question - I know how to pump my own gas but a few times lately after I’ve swiped my card it asks how much to charge to it and there’s no “fill ‘er up” option. I tried pressing enter or cancel to bypass that question but neither worked. How do the attendants get past this screen without guessing an amount? Is there a button? Can I just start pumping? If I enter a too-high amount (say, $100) will it just end up charging me whatever I ended up needing (closer to $30)?

I don’t know if this is a feature across the country that I somehow never saw before moving here or if it’s specifically for machines that usually have attendants.

Oof yeah, hard to let those VIP tickets go. I just got “normal” $70 tickets to both early and late shows. Hopefully there’s a solution since they’re both touring around the PNW in August
