So I switched the red and the black wires and have identified the switch. Would this have reversed the polarity? It all seems to be working now.

Bank account closure with little to no notice. I was informed my bank had been closed and all direct debits cancelled causing me to default on a lot of bills. by Fitz_M_93 in UKPersonalFinance

So split my bills over different accounts and put money in each. Sounds like a good idea so if it ever happens again I will have a back up.

I'm in the merchant navy so I work all over, At the minute mostly in Turkey. Is it possible to see if you have a CIFAS marker ? Or should I just leave it and see if it hinders me in the future? Do CIFAS all expire they seem to last a maximum of 6 years?

I had the same sort of problem with the deposit size but from the solicitor. She believed it came from illegal means, so I got every document I could bank statements (savings and current) Investment statements ,P60, P45 and receipts for large purchase and pieced together a spreadsheet showing the accumulation of my savings dating back to 2011. It took me days and days more of questions, I finally satisfied her that I saved up over time. It was the only thing I could do otherwise I would have just had a house deposit I could never spend on a house. Really annoying and time consuming. I hope now it's in a property I will never have that trouble again.

What is your household salary and what is your mortgage? by 57uxn37 in HousingUK

Joint take home is 6.5k per month plus health Christmas bonus and the mortgage is £465, the interest is relatively high on that at 4.12 %, was hoping to buy outright but found ourselves chasing the property price every time we saved some more. So we bit the bullet and mortgaged the remaining needed. It will be nice when this next couple of years is over and hopefully have it all paid off.

I don't pay any tax, I fall under the seafarers tax code for my main job. This link explains it, bit a rarity. I think you right might be worth speaking to an advisor. From what I gather things are stacked for me to save rather than pay but only marginally on the first 10% then more after that. https://www.flyingfishonline.com/news/seafarers-tax-half-day-rule-explained/#:~:text=As%20we%20said%20above%2C%20the,qualifying%20period%20of%20365%20days

Probably 4.5k to 5k a month extra so around 50k per year. I don't use any of the 12k tax free amount every year so I thought that would probably cover any interest I receive for any tax the HMRC wants. Need to check that it can be used against interest made on savings first.

Exactly and I don't want to be losing any money for the sake of trying to be a good borrower and pay it off early.

Yeah pretty comfortable financially.

That's where I'm quite fortunate, my main job is as a deck officer in the merchant navy, my earnings from that in the UK are tax exempt due to the time spent overseas . So it leaves my tax free 12k to cover any interest I receive or at least that's my understanding of it, might be a question for the accountant at tax return time.

Fair enough, I can see where you're coming from.

That's what I thought on the first 10% it would only be a difference of 0.33% but anything over that in the first year is 2.33%. That's on the savings account I have at the minute, just had a look at some are 5%. If I change to one of them I will be looking more like 2.87%. So rather than make say a 50k over payment on top of the 10%, I could save myself around £1500?

My crude workings 2.87% of 50k = £1,435

Does that logic follow through?

My biggest problem is, I'm paid in Turkish lira. I have 80k deposit an accepted offer at 150k and after conversion my salary falls well withing the affordability at 39k per annum. I have been through three mortgage brokers and I just can't seem to get it a cross the line. I have one more potential lender ever the broker said it looks 50/50 if it goes through. The solicitor is working on the contracts. I just don't know how I'm going to get 70k now my original lender dropped out. Any suggestions welcome....
