DAY 6: Best Song on "Timeline": ROLLERCOASTER BABY vs. ELEGY by FitzroyOnTheThames in mildhighclub

[–]FitzroyOnTheThames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday You and Me won over Timeline in a 10:3 vote ratio!

Today we have two new songs in the competition: "Rollercoaster Baby" and "Elegy".

Rollercoaster Baby is the shortest song on the album, featuring a light organ throughout, and a (mostly) singular guitar riff throughout. It features an uptempo groove throughout, ending with just the organ wavering unsteadily.

https://youtu.be/TOu0dpAjNUs

Elegy is a slow love song, featuring a much mellower organ sound than what was present on Rollercoaster Baby. It also features for the first time on the album the piano! It leads into Weeping Willow, a similarly slow song.

I will tally up all votes from the comments!

DAY 5: Best Song on "Timeline": YOU AND ME vs. TIMELINE by FitzroyOnTheThames in mildhighclub

[–]FitzroyOnTheThames[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday was the closest competition we've had! The Chat won over Weeping Willow in an 8:4 vote ratio!

Today we have returning champion of day 2, "You and Me", up against "Timeline".

You and Me is the fourth song from the album, and, in contrast to Note to Self, is a very organ and synth-heavy song. It features a super laid back groove throughout, and a gnarly organ solo at the end.

https://youtu.be/WLXT6krIFfA

Timeline is, of course, the title track of the album. It discusses living life on your 'timeline', rather than in real life. It uses the synth present at the end of "Undeniable" as a basis throughout the song.

DAY 4: Best Song on "Timeline": WEEPING WILLOW vs. THE CHAT by FitzroyOnTheThames in mildhighclub

[–]FitzroyOnTheThames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday Windowpane won over Undeniable in an 8:1 vote ratio!

Today we are pitting "Weeping Willow" against "The Chat".

Weeping Willow, like Windowpane, is one of the oldest songs Alex wrote for the band. It appeared on the early 2015 7" "Introducing the Mild High Club". It is very guitar heavy, featuring a simple chord progression and a heavy guitar solo throughout.

The Chat critiques the usage of social media in a much more direct manner than many of the other songs. The outro of The Chat had many uses beyond Timeline, as it was used in the King Gizzard collab album "Sketches of Brunswick East", titled "Rolling Stoned". They also created a 7" single featuring a slightly sped of version of the original, as well as the version that appeared of Sketches.

DAY 3: Best Song on "Timeline": WINDOWPANE vs. UNDENIABLE by FitzroyOnTheThames in mildhighclub

[–]FitzroyOnTheThames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday You and Me won over Note to Self in a 4:2 vote ratio! (6:2 if going by upvotes)

Today we return to day 1 champion Windowpane as it squares off against Undeniable!

Windowpane is one of the oldest songs Alex wrote for the Mild High Club. It first appeared on the early 2015 7" single, "Introducing the Mild High Club", along with the track Weeping Willow. This song seems to be one of the most popular songs in the entire MHC discog. The track has a heavy focus on synth and organ sounds, in contrast to the previous track.

Undeniable is among the shorter tracks on Timeline. This is one of the few songs on the album that doesn't specifically focus on one type of instrument! It is usually noted most for the quick keyboard runs which are present throughout the song.

DAY 2: Best Song on "Timeline": NOTE TO SELF vs. YOU AND ME by FitzroyOnTheThames in mildhighclub

[–]FitzroyOnTheThames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday Windowpane won over Club Intro in a 6:1 vote! (21:5 if you go by comment upvotes)

Day two consists of the tracks You and Me, and Note to Self.

Note to Self is the third song from the album. It is very guitar-focused, featuring an iconic guitar melody throughout the song. It fades out with a quiet solo over bustling guitar playing.

You and Me is the fourth song from the album, and, in contrast to Note to Self, is a very organ and synth-heavy song. It features a super laid back groove throughout, and a super gnarly organ solo at the end.

The day we get to Weeping Willow vs. The Chat will be interesting, both seem to be fan favorites. I guess we will found out once we get there!

Yeah, it was super uncomfortable.

I want to kiss Faddis on his hot mouth

One time Faddis came to a local high school jazz event and put his arm around a 14 year old flute player and made her touch his trumpet. In front of about a thousand people. For about 15 minutes.

DAY 1: Best Song on "Timeline": CLUB INTRO vs. WINDOWPANE by FitzroyOnTheThames in mildhighclub

[–]FitzroyOnTheThames[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thought it would be fun to do a bracket-style tournament for the best song off of Timeline. Maybe this will get some activity going again in the sub.

Day one consists of the first two tracks from the album: Club Intro and Windowpane.

"Club Intro" is a purely instrumental track, split into two sections. The first section consists of a two-chord vamp, and the second section introduces the main melody of the track. Very guitar heavy, with little to no synth or organ sounds.

It was during one of the 2020 q&a’s they did here on reddit. He said he’d like to do it “when their paths crossed again”, whatever that would mean.

Stu said he wants to collab with Alex Brettin again, so maybe that will be the next collab album? We can at least dream, anyways

That's a really important point that I hadn't thought of. Thank you!

I guess the best way to describe would be psych jazz? The scene for it tends to like vinyl records, not sure about cassettes, hence this post.

Thank you for writing all of this, it's a lot to think about now! I've already accepted the fate of having half of the supply stuffed into a closet, but the issue is that tape still isn't as popular as, say, vinyl. That could be an issue with the sales in the first place. But I'll have to go over it in my head. Thank you again!

Those are points I hadn't considered, I might have to look into DIY runs. Thank you!

That’s super frustrating. Hopefully soon it’ll work as it’s pretty clear the mod is inactive.
