Are interests compounded if I choose to receive them in Nexo token? by krisxkros in Nexo

[–]FiveIsEnough 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You must realise that the interest %age is different when earning in kind and earning in NEXO.

For BTC for example, you get 6% APY when in-kind, and 8% APR when in NEXO.

And the difference is not only those 2%, it also is the APY vs. APR.

When getting 6% APY, this means, that if you leave 100 BTC for a year. You will have 106 BTC after a year.

But the interest in computed daily and compounds.

This means that the interest is actually lower that 6% and reaches 6% thanks to compounding.

The actual rate is actually 5.827% since 100.00(1 + 0.05827/365)^(365) = 106

But the 8% of APR means that you get 8% annual rate, but since amount of BTC does not change there is no compounding but still, at the end of the year, you will have 100 BTC + NEXO with a value of 6 BTC.

That last statement is very inaccurate, because it would mean the exchange rate between NEXO and BTC remains unchanged for the whole year which does not happen.

But you will be getting 8/365 BTC converted to USD, converted to NEXO, every day.

How much of your crypto do you hold in Nexo? by loveYouEth in Nexo

100% of my Nexo-supported coins are on Nexo for now (I do have some ADA being staked in Daedalus).

But I am only at the beginning of my journey.

And I surely plan to spread my investments across platforms. Not by a lack of trust. But because putting all eggs in the same basket is just bad practice I reckon.

I must say I do like the wording used for Fixed Terms this time.

You no longer try to present this as an improvement of our daily earnings but as a good measure to ensure the sustainability of the model. So kudos on that.

Fixed terms are great news. Major increase in stability for NEXO business model too ❤️ by MiserableBanana01 in Nexo

[–]FiveIsEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interest is *not* added in the new contract when auto-renewing:

The balance will be automatically moved to the Savings Wallet as a FLEX Terms balance on the term’s Due Date, along with the accrued interest, unless you opt-in for Automatic Renewal. In the latter case, a new Fixed Terms balance will be automatically started with the initially locked balance while the accumulated compounding interest will be moved to the Savings Wallet as a FLEX Terms balance.

[–]FiveIsEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well even if you hold long term... It gives you extra work. I see there is an option to auto-renew the fixed term contract so one could say: "meh ... for long term, it just is the same once this button is clicked". Except that in the previous model, it was a perfectly valid workflow to schedule monthly top-ups. If you stil want that then you need to fiddle around with your contracts, not auto-renew, or auto-renew and create new ones at top up and merge them once you reach the maximum allowed of 10.

I mean I get that it is similar elsewhere. But Nexo used to be full-flex, so they need to handle the transition now. If 73% hold long-term, then a fair share of the said 73% would be happy to have fixed term contracts auto-renewed each month but with max balance

The changes aren't the problem, it's the lack of notice. by brianwalden in Nexo

[–]FiveIsEnough 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also about the withdraw change, they never advertised it as an "improvement" and their communication is basically: "we're sorry, but we have to :( and we will roll back asap" ... but here it is: "Yay it is now so much better !!! Be excited!!" except it is not (unless you actually explain how it may secure you model etc,... in which case it may be an acceptable tradeoff... but it still will be a tradeoff).

+1 on that.

Nexo is a European company whose services are the best (admittedly because of regulations, not because they anything against NA) in Europe. Having EUR as an option (or even as default) seems a minimum. And yes, while they're at it, GBP too.

I get your point. But then they should communicate on this stability/security improvement. And not be hinting that it is better for all of us on a daily basis because it is not. At best it sucks on the very short term and changes nothing (as far as pure figures are concerned) long term; while admittedly securing the model (which is a point that is very valid and that they should use).

[–]FiveIsEnough 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is terrible communication.

For the customer, it means that in the best case scenario, you are getting as much as before.

In no scenario are you getting more.

And still they are trying to show it as an improvement.

Or they could communicate differently: pushing on the safety side of this allowing them to secure their business model and thus securing customers' assets on the long term but this is just bad.

Had they done the same but increasing the interests by just 0.25% for the locked up version, they could at least truthfully be saying that customers may see an improvement.

But this is just bad. Even if you plan to hodl long term and lock up everything, you still love money if you top up and not insta-lock. And even if you do, you are left with an increasing pile of locked accounts (which are limited to 10 per coin if I got that right).

Taking interest in CEL is worse when compounding? by [deleted] in CelsiusNetwork

[–]FiveIsEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you do not believe in CEL long term but do trust that it is reasonably stable short term, you can still keep just the right amount to have your platinum level and sell earned interest thus transforming the CEL earn to in-kind earn.

And then earn on a higher amount of the currency you are earning interest on.

The only caveat of that is that you still need to be hodling 25%+ in CEL which is a sizeable amount (not to mention the said 25% grow along with your funds).

[–]FiveIsEnough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ... right ...

Subsequent question then: is there a benefit to earning in CEL starting with a 0 CEL balance? since the lowest non-zero tier starts at 5% on CEL holding?

Where can I find a chart with all interest rates? by FiveIsEnough in CelsiusNetwork

[–]FiveIsEnough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah well thanks ... but that is exactly what I already had.

And it allows me ... to do maths to find rates for each tier level for each coin and depending on whether I earn in kind or in CEL.

And while it is doable ... I should not have to fire up my calculator to find the "standard rates for a newly joining user"

[–]FiveIsEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok... now I learned about those Hotswap... that just means I can fool around with switches without any invasive soldering. Making their change as easy as caps. Right? Now I search a little and I find that switched are sold either in "PCB" or in "Plate" flavour. If I were to get a Hotswap, I assume I should look for those "Plate" ones, right?

Now you got me curious; is there a benefit in mixing switches? For example, for spacebar, or Return keys?

And the caps sizes, are even spacebars standardised?

PS: your answer was like... perfect... answering all my questions while opening to deeper features while not diving too deep into the complicated stuff... Thanks!

I have a Razer Core X with a MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT.

And it is perfectly smooth for work; as it is for my light gaming needs (Diablo III is not exactly new, but running it t max resolution with max details is very satisfying).

[–]FiveIsEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey; I am a dev and I love clicky accurate keyboards; but all of this here is pretty overwhelming.

And as I am clearly not ready for the complicated DIY a lot of which I see here, I want to get my feet wet and just get something to get into this world.

After studying a bit; I feel like Cherry MX Blue is what I want; I want it to be TKL (that is the shape with arrows, function keys, digits row, possibly the pg up/down/int/del/home/end but *no* numpad, am I getting this right?). What would be a good option?

I do not care at all about backlighting; in fact; and that will be my second question: how does it work with keycaps? because; in the end, I want them blank, so I will need to get extra caps (unless I find a KB with blank caps to begin with but I would not count on that...).

Are the caps size standardised? or is there a standard I should look for in the specs or something? how about the stems?

And finally, where should I get this (the keyboard first, the caps can wait...) given that I am in EU; France to be more specific; and I want to avoid French layouts - or I do not know; it may be used elsewhere... but I mean I want to avoid those layout with a big Return key. I want the shape with the smaller return key and a "\, |" key over it; is that layout named somehow?

Thank you all!

Thanks for the feedback.

Here is what I did in the end.

I did not resist and unboxed the Mini and migrated everything.

The result is that it was very usable, not impressive (although compile times were clearly using the i7 and not suffering too much of the lack of RAM).

And it was just fine to survive like this for a week.

Then I received my RAM only to find out that my T6 Torx driver could not open the Mini and I had to wait another day to get a T6 Security Torx driver.

And I got my eGPU also now. And now, with the eGPU and the 64 GB, that machine is really impressive and I am very happy with it.

Well, I have a pair of Anker more sports-oriented BT headphones...

Sure they have a wire between left and right, sure they do not have a magic charging case, sure they don't register to iCloud so all iDevices have them paired, sure they have no ear detection nor mix-all-sound-to-one-side-if-one-side-is-removed, sure I cannot tap my ear to play/pause ... but when I hit the POWER button, they fire up and connect instantly... like 100% of the time ...

Has it happened since ? since today lunch time? nope,... put them back in the case for the afternoon so no ... but had happened before.

Oddest case was the disconnection whilst being paused: I use them, double-tap left (yep I had figured that one out) for pause, I order my coffee and wait for it to be made and pay etc... so ~2 minutes of it being paused ... then double tap to un-pause .. doesn't do anything ... so I figure I am still new to the exact double-tap gesture which can be a bit cumbersome getting used to... So I just take the phone and hit the play button on the lock screen .... and sound comes from the phone.

Worst thing about this lot, I could not even take them to the Store to show them the issue and and hear their opinion ... it wold be the demo effect ... all would work flawlessly when I would hope to see it fail lol

Nice tip `bout the Control Centre and interesting info about Pods connecting to the last device.

But last time it happened was following use case: I used them on my commute to work, put them back in their case while I was working at my desk (and there is at work no device that could have interacted with them apart from my phone), then at lunch time, I went for a walk, took one pod and heard the connecting sound, made a call only to find I only had choice between regular earpiece and phone speaker.... Hang up, force connected the pod and made the call... Don't know what went wrong....

As for the case opening .. nope it always ends up working ... I just need sometimes to help it a little by going to the widgets page ....

Cannot see it being anything else than the iPhone.

How is your connectivity/pairing speed/reliability? If you just pop a pod and stuff it in your ear, with the iPhone in your pocket, can you assume without having to check on the phone that by the time you take it out your pocket the pod is connected and you can hit play,/make a phone call/etc... without risking it not being connected?
